After the tragic passing of her best friend Jennifer, Vanessa embarks on a vacation that the two had eagerly anticipated, coinciding with their natural soda company sealing a distribution deal. On the very first night of her trip, overwhelmed by grief, Vanessa indulges in alcohol and takes Xanax, ultimately passing out. When she awakens the next morning, she is astounded to discover Jennifer standing in her kitchen. However, this isn’t the Jennifer she remembers; instead, she claims to be an alien, sent to Earth with the mission of studying humans, with Vanessa as her chosen test subject. The alien insists that she possesses all of Jennifer’s memories, leaving Vanessa in disbelief and questioning her state of mind—whether she is dreaming or succumbing to the effects of her night of debauchery. Yet, she decides to humor the alien’s research, engaging in heartfelt discussions about their friendship and searching for closure on Jennifer’s untimely death.

One poignant memory shared between them involves a Papa Roach concert they attended, which Vanessa holds dear as it was their first time seeing the band together. In a twist, the alien reveals that it was actually Jennifer’s sister who attended that concert, prompting Vanessa to call her, who confirms the alien’s statement. With this revelation, Vanessa realizes the alien is indeed not a mere figment of her imagination.

Their journey unfolds further as they visit a gas station, hoping to find their soda on the shelves. However, they encounter a setback when Vanessa’s car breaks down en route. Fortunately, they receive assistance from a man Vanessa recognizes from earlier. While she remains cautious, the alien trusts him completely, leading them back to the house. Together, they witness the alien’s first sunset, marking a significant moment.

As their conversations progress, Vanessa shares her belief that she and Jennifer would grow old together. The alien delivers a harsh truth, suggesting that had Jennifer lived, they would have likely experienced a significant falling out during this very vacation. Claiming the ability to see the future, she attempts to comfort Vanessa, but her companionship soon takes an unexpected turn when a DJ arrives for a party planned by Vanessa and Jennifer. In a light-hearted moment, she and the alien agree to let the DJ perform his set and indulge in ecstasy after purchasing it from him. They both let loose, reveling in their shared experience and deepening their bond.

However, by the next morning, the dynamic shifts dramatically as the alien admits to having lied about her prophetic visions, which triggers a heated argument with Vanessa. Feelings of betrayal surface as the alien confesses that her intention was merely to soothe Vanessa during this emotional time. Nevertheless, she prepares to return to her mother ship and calls for pickup early. In a heartfelt exchange just before her departure, Vanessa and the alien reconcile, providing a sense of closure. As Vanessa heads back inside for a parting gift for the alien, she discovers that the alien has already vanished. Leaving the experience behind, she returns home with a newfound sense of peace regarding Jennifer’s death, ready to embrace her life ahead.
