Deep in the Amazon Rainforest, a remarkably preserved woman from the Ice Age is found encased in amber. Her body is loaded onto a military aircraft to be studied by scientists, with Dr. Thomas Goddard Daniel Hall Kuhn overseeing the transfer. A malfunction in the heating system of her containment tube cools the chamber to near-freezing temperatures, awakening her as a vengeful Ice Queen, Ami Chorlton and setting off a deadly chain of events.
Meanwhile, at a nearby mountain ski resort, Johnny Harmon Walsh, a resort worker, spends a one-night stand with Elaine Jennifer Hill, who is applying for a job the next day. The resort is almost empty, with only a few people staying for the week: Johnny, Elaine, Johnny’s crush Tori Noelle Reno, Ed John Romeo who owns the place, and Johnny’s friends Devlin Peter Wyndorf and Jessie Demone Gore, along with fellow worker Audrey Tara Walden.
As the plane glides over the mountain, the pilot, Mac Neil Benedict, holds Goddard at gunpoint, intending to sell the specimen for ransom. But the Ice Queen wakes, kills Mac, and the plane crashes into the mountains, triggering an avalanche that traps Johnny, Tori, Elaine, Audrey, Devlin, and Jessie inside the hotel, with Ed stranded in the parking lot. The plane slides into the hotel too, sealing Goddard and the Ice Queen inside. The Ice Queen first kills Devlin in the hallway, then attacks Jessie in a bathroom, where he manages to temporarily subdue her. Goddard then explains that heating her enough will kill her, and Johnny later encounters the Ice Queen, who exhibits a disturbing sexual attraction toward him.
Elaine is later ambushed in the kitchen; the others battle the Ice Queen, who escapes. Audrey and Goddard later find her in the dining room. Audrey makes a stand, but is killed as Goddard encourages his specimen to kill. The Ice Queen wounds Goddard and chases Johnny, Tori, and Elaine through the hotel. The trio head for the attic in an attempt to reach the surface; Elaine is killed by the Ice Queen, while Johnny and Tori escape outside and reunite with Ed. The Ice Queen pursues, but Johnny lures her into a hot tub and scalds her to death. Johnny, Tori, and Ed walk away, unaware that Goddard has reached the surface alive and has recovered a sample of the Ice Queen’s remains, signaling a plan to clone her later on.
