I Am Zozo

Friends Monica Olive, Esther Haltom, and Nick Corrado gather around a Ouija board at Monica's home. They contact a spirit identifying itself as Zozo, which triggers Monica's convulsions and fear among the group. The ominous presence foreshadows a danger that will creep into their night.

Tess composes a letter to Darren Evans, a Zozo survivor, detailing what happened on the board. She then recounts the Ouija session for Darren, hoping to explain the terror they've faced. The retelling hints at the lurking danger that haunts Tess.

Tess joins her friend Aiden for a Halloween night gathering at Aiden's father's island cabin. The group—Aiden, Tess, Nick, Dean, and Mel—are taken across the water by Skip to Paradise Island. The mood shifts from casual to tense as the night unfolds.

The electricity fails in the cabin as the group tries to settle in. Nick performs a card trick before Mel pulls out the Ouija board and pressure rises as they decide to use it. Mel and Dean use the board while blindfolded, and Tess begins transcribing the questions.

Tess asks questions and briefly contacts her deceased cousin Adam, but the next spirit arrives with a warning about coming danger. Oliver's presence appears before the apparent Zozo conversation returns, and the group grows uneasy. The spirit's insults toward Mel intensify the fear.

A loud bang on the door startles the group, and Aiden investigates, finding nothing. Despite the scare, Mel argues to keep using the board, pushing the others toward continued contact. The tension tightens as the night wears on.

After the dispute, Tess takes over at the board with Aiden acting as the transcriber. The spirit threatens and insults Mel, and Tess’s questioning pushes closer to uncovering whether the contact is real or a malevolent trick. The voice hints at guardian roles, but the evidence points to Zozo.

Zozo repeats Nick's earlier card trick by making a card disappear and then claims to be in the bathroom. The group volunteers to go downstairs to verify the claim. The tension rises as they seek the card and the source of the disturbance.

In the downstairs bathroom, something unseen attacks Tess while she sleeps, heightening the sense that the house is malevolent. Nick discovers a shirt behind the door, a clue believed to be connected to the eerie events. The group decides to end the night.

The morning-after reveals Tess recounting the night terror to Mel. She also shares a family history: her mother’s paralyzing vision of a baby dying in a fire and her sister’s death shortly after birth. Mel acknowledges continuing to play with the Ouija board and notes that Adam asked questions about Tess.

Aiden cleans and prepares fish for dinner as the group shares stories. Dean explains how he met Aiden when Aiden saved his life, while Tess and Nick describe how they met at school. The exchanges build the crew's dynamic against the mounting dread.

Tess wakes to find Mel using the Ouija board alone by the fireplace and in a trance. Mel experiences an asthma attack, and Tess searches for an inhaler, but becomes locked in a bathroom; Mel dies before help arrives. The missing card from the prior night is finally found in a bathroom vent.

Darren takes the Ouija board with him as he leaves Tess at Beloit View Psychiatric Hospital. The epilogue reveals that Dean, unable to cope with Mel's death, commits suicide one year later.
