Lavish adaptation of Wilhelm Hauff’s fairy tale follows young charcoal‑burner Peter Munk, who longs to join the upper class. He strikes a pact with the sinister Holländer‑Michel, exchanging his human heart for a stone one. The “cold heart” brings wealth and power, but also turns Peter bitter and emotionless, driving him to murder his wife Lisbeth.
