Rumble Through the Dark

Jack kills the money collector because he discovers the bank is about to foreclose on his adoptive mother Mary's house. After winning a large sum through gambling, Jack decides to use that money to pay off the bank and save the house instead of paying Big Momma. When the collector arrives to recover her money, Jack brutally kills him to prevent Big Momma from taking either his money or his home.

After Jack kills the money collector and crashes his car in a cornfield while fleeing from Big Momma's enforcer, he stumbles into a bar and passes out from exhaustion and injuries. During this time, Annette, a woman working at a traveling carnival, passes through the same cornfield and finds Jack's lost money bag, inadvertently taking it with her.

Big Momma deliberately pits Jack against a much larger opponent because she wants him to lose. Even though Jack has paid off his debt, she persuades him to fight one more time for a huge prize that would allow him to buy back his house. The rigged fight is her way of maintaining control over Jack and potentially eliminating him, as she profits from his losses in the underground pit.

Jack meets Annette when he rescues her from a rapist at a gas station. After she escapes the attacker, she asks Jack for a ride. During their journey together, they grow closer, and Annette eventually discovers Jack's diary, which reveals that he is her long-lost father, a revelation that leads to their reconciliation.

Jack returns to pit fighting because his gambling winnings were spent on saving his mother's house from foreclosure rather than paying off his debt to Big Momma. After his money is stolen by Annette and he kills the collector, Jack negotiates an extension on his debt. Big Momma agrees but conditions his extension on returning to the pit to fight if he fails to pay again, exactly what ultimately happens.

Jack helps Annette at the gas station because he encounters her being attacked by a rapist and intervenes to save her. While Jack is largely driven by desperation and self-interest throughout the film, this act of heroism shows his underlying moral character. Annette then asks him for a ride, which leads to their developing relationship.

Annette discovers Jack is her father by reading his diary. While traveling with Jack, she finds his diary and learns the shocking truth about their parentage. This revelation explains why she felt a connection to him and leads to an emotional reconciliation between father and daughter.

Their support gives him the strength to overcome the physical disadvantage and defeat the bigger fighter.
