In a medieval duel, Irineus Daninsky, Paul Naschy, defeats a Mongol chieftain, a victory that enrages a local witch who had admired the invaders. Naschy’s wife and two sons appear in the audience, shown watching the duel. The witch learns that the grateful king will allow Irineus to marry his daughter. Months later, with Irineus’ wife pregnant, the witch curses the entire Daninsky line by biting the pregnant belly with the skull of a werewolf. Although the king’s guards kill the witch with arrows, the curse has already taken hold.

Centuries later, Waldemar Daninsky, Paul Naschy, discovers he is a werewolf, and he seeks help from an old rabbi named Salom Jehuda, Conrado San Martín. The rabbi is killed by a mob of racist villagers, but not before he directs Daninsky to seek out Kian, a Japanese wise man in Kyoto who might help him find a cure. The werewolf travels from Europe to Japan (bringing his wife with him) and meets Kian, who explains that a magic silver sword could free him from the curse. Meanwhile, Satomi, the evil witch, Junko Asahina, schemes to seize Waldemar’s mind and turn him into a vessel for her growing powers. Daninsky is captured by Satomi and imprisoned in a cage with a man-eating tiger. He unleashes his werewolf form, slaying the beast with his fangs and claws. Kian then defeats Satomi and her followers and takes possession of the silver sword. After Daninsky’s wife is accidentally slain, Kian uses the silver sword to grant him release from his torment. An epilogue hints that Daninsky may have previously impregnated Akane, Yôko Fuji, a Japanese girl, suggesting the Daninsky curse could live on through her as well.
