A destitute, friendless girl is taken in by a sculptor and his mother; the mother loves her like a daughter while the son feels only affection. At a reception the sculptor becomes fascinated by a woman described as having a “marble heart.” She seeks his devotion, poses for him, and his resulting statue is praised as a masterpiece.
