Picking up right where the first film concluded, Marybeth (Danielle Harris) finds herself under attack by Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder). However, she manages to escape his deadly grasp. Soon after, she is rescued by Jack Cracker, who retrieves her from the river and takes her to his cabin. Upon discovering Marybeth’s last name, he urges her to leave, asserting that if she seeks assistance, she must consult Reverend Zombie (Tony Todd). Shortly after her departure, Jack stumbles upon the camcorder of Shapiro, which he had discovered in the swamp. The eerie footage reveals Shapiro’s secret recordings of various topless women, including Misty and Jenna. Tragically, Jack’s curiosity leads to his demise as Victor brutally kills him, disemboweling him and ultimately decapitating him.
Determined, Marybeth heads to Reverend Zombie’s shop in New Orleans, demanding to speak with him. Reluctantly, he lets her in, and it’s revealed that he had a rather dubious partnership with Shawn, the tour guide who was murdered shortly before. The revelation of her family connection leads Zombie to inform her that her father played a role in the tragic fire that claimed Victor Crowley’s life. He recounts the heart-wrenching tale of how Victor was born deformed after a curse was placed on him by his dying mother, Shyann Crowley. This backstory details the affliction of Victor and how his life has been marred by far-reaching consequences.
Marybeth expresses her desire to retrieve her father and brother’s remains. Reverend Zombie agrees to assist her but insists she must bring along a family member. Following her departure, Zombie contacts Justin (Parry Shen), Shawn’s brother, informing him that Shawn never returned and claiming they will search for him together. He cleverly orchestrates a group of hunters to accompany them, specifically calling upon a man named Trent Graves (R. A. Mihailoff).
Upon returning home, Marybeth’s uncle Bob (Tom Holland) arrives. He warns her against Reverend Zombie but eventually consents to join her in a recruitment meeting at Zombie’s shop, where he promises excessive payment to hunters for retrieving both his boat and Victor’s head, enticing Trent with a doubled offer. The group sets off into the ominous swamp, where dangers lurk.
As they venture deeper, the hunters quickly fall prey to Victor’s wrath. While some remain by the boat, Marybeth, Zombie, Justin, Bob, and Trent search for Victor’s hideout and the remains of the deceased. Zombie shares the gruesome history of the three boys, including Bob and Trent, who instigated the fire that led to Victor’s tragic fate. As they fail to locate the bodies, the rest of their hunting party meets a grisly end at the hands of Victor Crowley.
The tension mounts when Marybeth learns about Zombie’s ulterior motives regarding her uncle and Trent. In a twisted turn of events, she’s forced to confront the monster as chaos ensues. Despite her attempts to save her companions from Victor’s reign of terror, the confrontation becomes increasingly gruesome, with everyone falling victim to Victor’s unrelenting fury.
In a climactic battle, Marybeth ultimately rises against Victor Crowley, wielding his own hatchet against him. After a brutal struggle, she brings him down and, in a moment of raw defiance, stands over him, poised to end his terror once and for all, declaring, > “Fuck you!” She fires her shotgun into his remains, signaling an apparent close to his gruesome legacy.
