Haath Ki Safai

Two brothers flee their village and are separated, marking the start of parallel paths. They eventually reach Mumbai, but their bond remains tested by the pressures of crime and survival. This opening sets the stage for Raju's plunge into petty crime and Shankar's ascent as a crime lord.

In Mumbai, Raju becomes a pickpocket under Usmanbhai Bombay, learning the craft on crowded streets. Meanwhile, Shankar rises to a crime-boss persona known as Kumar, using a hotel as a cover for smuggling operations. Roma is pregnant with Shankar's child, unaware of his criminal life.

Kamini arrives in Mumbai with her dance troupe and is pickpocketed. Raju retrieves her purse from Raghu, but secretly pockets her expensive necklace as well. This encounter ties Kamini into the underworld through Raju's growing ambitions.

Kamini's uncle owes money to the ruthless Ranjeet, who plots to marry her to inherit wealth. He advertises in the newspaper that Kamini has run away with jewelry, a move designed to trap her. Raju becomes the first to locate Kamini and lures her to an isolated bungalow.

In the bungalow, Kamini confesses her love for Raju, who pretends to reciprocate while secretly searching her baggage for jewelry. He is disappointed to find that Kamini has none of the valuables he imagines. The scene deepens the moral ambiguity surrounding both characters.

Shankar tracks Raju and, in a calculated move, trades Kamini to his ally Ranjeet for a mere ten thousand rupees. Kamini is heartbroken by the betrayal of both men and loses her illusion about wealth.

Ranjeet pays Shankar to secure Kamini, which allows Kamini to slip past custody and seek shelter at Shankar's home. Roma, Shankar's wife, learns much about him and grows shocked by the life he leads.

Roma discovers Shankar's criminal life and attempts suicide in despair. Raju saves her, and Shankar, devastated, promises to abandon crime and give Kamini a safe home. Kamini respects Shankar and treats him as a protective elder.

Shankar returns the money to Ranjeet, hoping to end the vendetta, but Ranjeet grows more enraged and vows revenge. The feud tightens as Ranjeet's schemes threaten both Raju and Shankar.

Kamini learns that Raju has given up pickpocketing and begins to trust him again. Ranjeet then tries to use Raju as a pawn to trap Shankar by having him arrested for smuggling gold, while Shankar secretly hides the gold to foil the plan.

Shankar faces arrest as part of a scheme to seize his gold, but his security prevents the plan from collapsing. Shankar's gold remains hidden and the tension between the criminals intensifies.

Kamini learns that Roma is alive and has Shankar's baby. She informs Shankar that Roma is safe, and Shankar's world begins to feel like a family again.

Ranjeet kidnaps Kamini with the aim of forcing a marriage that would secure her wealth. Shankar escapes from prison to see his wife, setting off a chain of events that will bring old wounds to the surface.

Shankar escapes from prison to reunite with his wife, but Raju intervenes, captures Shankar, and trades him for Kamini. Raju returns home with the purse he found on Shankar, only to realize Shankar is his long-lost brother.

Back home, Raju discovers that Shankar is his long-lost brother and resolves to save him. In a Bollywood climax, Raju manages to rescue Shankar and reunite the brothers, ending the tale on a hopeful note.
