Finbar “Barry” McMullen finds himself at his father’s grave, grappling with the recent loss while accompanied by his mother. She reveals her intention to return to her homeland, Ireland, to reunite with Finbar O’Shaughnessy—her first love and the namesake of her son. She tells Barry that after dedicating 35 years to his father, she is ready to embrace life on her own terms alongside the man who truly holds her heart.
Meanwhile, Barry’s brother Jack [Jack Mulcahy] has taken over their parents’ home, sharing it with his wife Molly. However, Jack is conflicted, caught between his dedication to Molly and an undeniable attraction to Ann, who once had a romantic connection with Barry.
As things unfold, Barry and his younger brother Patrick request to move in with Jack temporarily, who reluctantly acquiesces. Patrick, on the verge of breaking off his engagement to Susan, spirals into despair when she calls off their relationship first. Fortunately, after some negotiation, Susan agrees to reconcile, but Patrick shocks everyone by deciding to end it for good in favor of Leslie, an auto mechanic. The couple sets off to California in a classic car that Leslie has been restoring.
On his part, Barry appears disinterested in any serious commitment, until he crosses paths with Audrey. Initially, he accuses her of “stealing” the apartment he intended to rent, leading to a rocky start. However, their interactions blossom, and they embark on a budding relationship.
Tensions rise when Molly discovers Jack’s infidelity after finding a condom while tidying up. Confronted, Jack refuses to acknowledge his betrayal. Eventually, he makes the difficult decision to end things with Ann and vows to repair his marriage. He pays a heartfelt visit to their father’s grave, pouring Irish whiskey and promising to be a better husband than his father was.
In a twist of fate, Barry decides to deepen his bond with Audrey by moving in together. As the three brothers gather at the family homestead, they emerge with renewed hope in love, determined to overcome the shadows of their past and build a brighter future together.
