Karthik, a dropout law student, is the troublesome son of Kumarasamy and Saraswathi. His hunger to question injustices often drags him into trouble, and even a complaint about the condition of his apartment spirals into a clash with his family when curious neighbors confront them, driving his father’s blood pressure higher. To pull him away from his patterns, his elder sister, Anandhi, ferries him to the strict, schedule-driven world of her in-laws in Ooty, hoping a change of scenery might steer him toward steadier choices.

Anandhi’s sister-in-law, Archana, steps in with a tentative plan to harness Karthik’s energy for something constructive. She lands him a job as a hospital bouncer, but the move backfires when he confronts a relative of a patient who is exploiting the elderly man’s wealth, and he is fired. Undeterred, Anandhi then secures him work as a physical training teacher at her school, only for him to clash with the school’s math teacher and get dismissed again. The family’s caretaker, Keshav, tries to steer the trouble toward therapy, arranging a psychiatric consultation with Dr. Phoenix Pushparaja. Yet a leg injury derails that plan, contributing to Hemamalini’s growing frustration and the sense that the household is fraying at the edges.

Sivagurunathan, the District Collector of Nilgiris, becomes involved, albeit in a way that minimizes direct conflict: he invites Karthik to observe, not to act, within the family. When Karthik witnesses the villagers of Pannaikadu protesting for electric fencing to shield themselves from wild animals, he can see the inaction that haunts the public space. He voices a bold, uncompromising stance, suggesting that the villagers could leverage a dramatic threat—self-immolation—to force action. This audacious suggestion pushes Sivagurunathan to accelerate the installation of the electric fencing, a move that quietly intensifies the already complicated family dynamics at home.

Tensions within the household reach a boiling point as the inmates demand Karthik’s expulsion. Anandhi pleads for him to apologize and stay, but Sivagurunathan, his wife, and his son Aravind IFS withdraw their tolerance and force them to leave with a modified sense of self-respect. Kumarasamy and Saraswathi absorb the fallout, blaming Karthik for destabilizing Anandhi’s life, and Kumarasamy even seeks forgiveness from Aravind, who rebuffs him. In a plot twist that alters the family landscape, a long-buried truth emerges: Karthik is adopted. The condition for accepting him becomes a demand to reunite Anandhi with her in-laws, a demand that pushes Karthik to seek reconciliation with Sivagurunathan’s family despite his earlier humiliation. Sivagurunathan’s decision to dismiss Keshav from his household job is a stark reminder of the personal costs embedded in these loyalties and betrayals.

Archana, who has developed genuine affection for Karthik, steps forward with renewed empathy, offering her support. A school function becomes a turning point: Aravind, moved by the children’s feelings and the pain in Anandhi’s life, begins to reconcile with Anandhi. Yet Sivagurunathan remains stern, and the family’s fractures stubbornly resist easy repair. Aravind decides to move into Karthik’s residence with his own family, a gesture that signals a shift in power within the household. Hemamalini advises forgiveness, but her husband’s ridicule drives her to leave and join Karthik’s side, highlighting the gendered tensions that ripple through the family’s upheaval.

Archana’s attempt to heal the rift intensifies when she proposes marriage to Karthik as a path to quiet the storms, while Dr. Vinay—who quietly admires Archana and believes he can leverage Sivagurunathan’s influence—offers marriage as a political solution. But Sivagurunathan’s ambitions, including a possible promotion to the Prime Minister’s Office in Delhi, begin to unravel under scrutiny. At a crucial press conference, a video praising Sivagurunathan’s actions in Pannaikadu, narrated by Karthik, is shown. The tough questions and growing discomfort lead Sivagurunathan to resign from his post, declaring the promotion unnecessary. Dr. Vinay abandons Sivagurunathan once that resignation becomes public.

In this moment of upheaval, Karthik offers his support, but Sivagurunathan refuses. On the way home, a group of thugs kidnap and assault him, yet Karthik arrives in time to rescue his benefactor. The rescuer’s courage catalyzes a transformation: Sivagurunathan sheds his air of superiority, accepts Karthik as his son-in-law, and consents to the marriage to Archana. He also apologizes to Anandhi and acknowledges the exemplary parenting of Kumarasamy and Saraswathi, signaling a broad realignment of relationships across the family.

The wedding scene crystallizes the new order, but the event also reveals a dark undercurrent: Keshav, the family’s longtime caretaker, is unmasked as the mastermind behind Sivagurunathan’s earlier kidnapping. The revelation reframes the conflicts and power dynamics that had driven the family apart. In a powerful turn of forgiveness, Sivagurunathan extends grace to Keshav, recognizing that the road to healing required confronting painful truths and choosing mercy over vengeance.
