The cinematic journey unfolds with Harry Banks (Richard Harris), an insightful and seasoned gentleman, sharing enthralling tales from his youth in the early 20th century to his grandchildren. As he recounts these stories, we are whisked away to a past era, where the younger Harry (Daniel Clark) grapples with the weight of his mother’s loss and the uncertainty of his future.

Fate intervenes when Harry’s father, Tyrone Banks (Bryan Brown), returns from overseas and takes him on an adventure destined to test their relationship and survival skills. Their journey leads them to the sprawling wilderness of British Columbia, embarking on a dangerous bear-hunting expedition in pursuit of a formidable grizzly.

As they delve deeper into the wild, father and son encounter Joshua McTavish (Tom Jackson), a skilled Native Canadian tracker with a blend of Scottish heritage, who agrees to assist them in their quest for the elusive bear. Along the way, they visit a rustic saloon, where they encounter a diverse group of hunters—Grits (Colin D. Simpson), Genet (Oliver Tobias), and Lanky (Brock Simpson)—enthusiastic to join in the hunt.

The adventure reaches a thrilling peak as Harry spots two seemingly invisible grizzly cubs, right before reuniting with his father. The following day, they capture the cubs, but the elation is fleeting when the fierce mother bear emerges, fiercely protective and seeking revenge against Tyrone.

In an unexpected twist, she kidnaps Harry and takes him to a secluded sanctuary, where she heals him and imparts her wisdom of the wild. As Harry develops a bond with the bear mother, Mizzy, who is voiced by an unseen presence, he gains a fresh perspective on life through her eyes.

Meanwhile, Tyrone is driven by an overwhelming need to rescue his son, while Joshua remains resolute, undeterred by the challenges presented by the treacherous landscape and those nefarious saloon men who have abandoned them. As tension escalates, Harry finds himself torn between his love for Mizzy and the yearning for his father’s approval.

In a gripping climax, Harry stumbles upon the saloon men’s encampment, only to be met with violence and hostility. Just as despair threatens to overwhelm him, Mizzy crashes through the window, turning the tide with chaos and fury against their adversaries. As the scene settles, Stream claims the fallen, while Harry must bid a heartfelt farewell to his cherished bear mother, Mizzy, as she ventures back into the mountains to reunite with her own cubs.
