Grimm’s Snow White (2012) – Full Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Read the complete plot breakdown of Grimm’s Snow White (2012), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

Long ago, a meteor crashed into Earth and burned eternally, giving birth to the Viridian Flame—the ultimate source of power. The flame fathered two races, dragons, the steadfast defenders of the flame, and elves, the vigilant guardians of it all. The elves each carried a stone that holds the power of the flame and grants them strength, yet most elves chose to blend into human kingdoms to live ordinary lives. Humans, however, began enslaving the elves for their power, sparking unrest across the realms and fueling a prophecy about the mighty luminary who would unite the land and bring peace for 1000 years.

In a world where the myth of the Viridian Flame has become a legend, the kingdoms Whitevale and Northfalia stand as neighbors with very different strengths. Princess Snow White, Eliza Bennett, has just returned to her homeland after the death of her father, the King, Eberhard Wagner, who had recently signed a peace treaty between the two realms. The meeting of Snow White with Prince Alexander, from Northfalia, Jamie Thomas King, signals a fragile moment of reconciliation and the hopeful possibility of lasting harmony. The quiet undercurrent of political maneuvering runs beneath the surface as Snow White seeks to honor her father’s legacy while navigating a realm wary of elven power and ancient prophecies.

Yet the path to peace is thorny. Queen Gwendolyn, Jane March, Snow White’s formidable stepmother, draws power from elven stones and consults a magic mirror that flatly declares Snow White’s beauty has eclipsed her own. Consumed by jealousy and ambition, she hatches a brutal scheme: she orders Huntsman Beasley, Ben Maddox, to take Snow White into the forest and return with her heart. The moment is grim and charged with danger as the woods become a stage for a deadly game between royal plots and the stubborn fire of resistance.

In the wilds, Snow White is wounded, yet she is saved by an elf named Runt, who carries her to a hidden dwelling where their leader Orlando, Alan Burgon, publicly resists her presence. At the castle, Gwendolyn’s plan expands as she seeks allies to seize the Viridian Flame’s power; the Dark Elves, guardians of the Flame, are asked to assist in waging war against Whitevale, but they refuse. Snow White’s survival becomes a thorn in Gwendolyn’s side, and the queen intensifies her search by sending men into the forest to interrogate elves for Snow White’s whereabouts. When that proves fruitless, she unleashes a pack of massive dogs upon the woods to hunt the young princess.

Prince Alexander is relentless in his search, and his own courage leads him to rescue Snow White from the dogs and to confront a dragon with nothing but resolve. He later seeks out Orlando’s home nearby, hoping for safe passage to Snow White, but Orlando keeps her hidden and dismisses the prince, wary of the queen’s broader plan. As tension between the court and the forest grows, Snow White and Runt attempt to infiltrate the castle to speak with Alexander, but their efforts are thwarted. Runt is captured by the queen’s guards, and the queen herself, using elf magic, becomes a crone and crafts a poison ring. In the market, she crosses Snow White and bestows the ring, a weapon that casts a deathly sleep over the princess.

The castle scene intensifies as a stable boy with Snow White’s ring is found, and Alexander seizes the moment to fight for his love. The elves assume Snow White is dead and prepare a funeral pyre, but Alexander arrives and replaces the false ring with his own ring, breaking the spell. A treacherous betrayal by Hugh the advisor, Otto Jankovich, comes to light as he reveals the failure of the plan to Gwendolyn, prompting a full-scale assault. The queen’s army clashes with the united forces of elves, humans, and, ultimately, the Dark Elves who lend crucial support. Gwendolyn’s bid for a quick, forced marriage to Alexander is halted when Snow White breaks free from her sleep and, in a final act of defiance, decapitates the power-hungry queen.

With Gwendolyn’s fall, the kingdoms edge toward unity. Snow White and Alexander marry, binding Whitevale and Northfalia in a lasting peace, and the land settles into a hopeful era where the Viridian Flame remains a force kept in check by cooperation rather than conquest. The tale closes on a note of reconciled power and shared destiny, a reminder that true strength lies in unity and mercy rather than domination.
