Dragonheart 3: The Sorcerer’s Curse

Brude, a powerful druid, manipulates events to trigger war between the northern and southern clans. When the druid circle prophesies a falling star from the constellation Draco, Brude uses this omen to summon the Painted tribe to massacre the druids. He then drives the northern clans toward war with the southern kingdoms over Hadrian's Wall, using the chaos to seize power and the dragon eggs for himself.

Gareth fails to gather the required 100 crowns from the peasants, which Sir Horsa demands before granting him knighthood. Despite excelling in combat trials, Gareth cannot pay the fee. A peasant couple who cannot afford to keep him takes him in, leaving him with no money and no path to knighthood until the meteor event changes his trajectory.

Gareth's financial failure at earning the 100 crowns directly leads him toward the meteor crash that defines his destiny.

After Gareth saves one of Drago's eggs and is badly wounded in the process, the dragon is moved by Gareth's mercy. Drago shares its heart with Gareth, saving his life and creating a magical bond between them. This heart-sharing is the nature of dragon bonds, it creates a life connection that allows Drago to communicate with Gareth and eventually work alongside him.

Gareth's act of mercy in saving the egg, despite being wounded, is what earns the dragon's trust and life-saving bond.

Brude places a Sorcerer's Curse on Drago that gradually gives him control over the dragon. The curse weakens Drago in daylight or firelight, rendering him powerless. By the full moon, Brude's control becomes complete, forcing Drago to attack on his command. The curse can be temporarily broken through acts of true bravery, as Gareth demonstrates when he frees Drago briefly during a rescue mission.

Shadow-jumping is a dragon ability that allows instantaneous travel between shadows. Drago attempts to teach Gareth this skill during their journey toward the Wall, though it proves difficult for a human to master. Gareth uses shadow-jumping to escape with an egg during a crisis, demonstrating he has learned at least the basics of the ability.

After Rhonu kills Brude but is fatally wounded herself, she is saved by an unhatched dragon egg. The baby dragon inside shares its heart with her, similar to how Drago shared his heart with Gareth. This heart-sharing saves her life and binds her to the dragon, allowing her to survive the mortal wound.

Earlier in the story, Drago explains that dragons can share their hearts to save those they bond with.

Drago is freed when Gareth confronts Sir Horsa at the gate to protect the dragon eggs. During this battle, with Brude now dead, the curse's hold on Drago breaks completely. Drago is then able to lend aid to both the soldiers and the northern clans, fighting alongside them as a free dragon.

Brude's death removes the source of the curse, freeing Drago from its control.

Gareth kills Sir Horsa when he confronts him at the gate to protect the dragon eggs from being sold off. Sir Horsa represents the corrupt authority that denied Gareth his knighthood and now threatens the dragons. In defending the eggs and standing up to the man who羞辱 him, Gareth proves his true worth and commitment to chivalry, ultimately earning his knighthood through this act of bravery.

The dragon eggs are seized when Gareth and his companions are arrested, but Gareth disrupts their sale at the gate. After Brude's defeat and Drago's freedom, the eggs remain protected. One unhatched egg saves Rhonu by sharing its heart with her, and the film ends with a baby dragon beginning to hatch, signaling a new era where dragons and humans coexist.

The eggs' protection has been central to the quest throughout the film.
