In the frozen regions of Winterland, a wise king rules over three daughters, but only the youngest shines with true heart. The two elder sisters, Marika Enstad and Kristin Mack, feel more surface than substance, while the youngest princess, Julie Frilseth Langseth, is kind, daring, and longs for a world where flowers bloom. Her genuine warmth hints at a courage that could reshape the kingdom she loves.
Far to the south, a new king named Valemon rises to power, a figure brought to life by Tobias Hoesl. Yet a dark force stands against him: a powerful witch queen, Anna-Lotta Larsson, who craves dominion and the chance to rule the world alongside him. The king refuses her offer of power, and in retaliation the witch curses him, turning him into a polar bear by day and setting a cruel clock: seven years to find someone who will love him truly. If anyone glimpses his human face before the time runs out, the spell will force him to marry the witch.
The bear slips north into Winterland, where he encounters the young princess who speaks with animals and whose heart is open to mercy. She learns the truth behind his fur and, moved by the way Summerland’s flowers gleam in his eyes, vows to accompany him back to Summerland as his wife. Their bond grows as they face the witch’s looming threat, and the story widens from a tale of captivity to a journey of trust, resilience, and love.
When they finally arrive in Winterland, the witch intensifies her attempts to destroy them. Yet the king’s mother, Monica Nordquist, uses a touch of magic to shield the couple, and their happiness seems safeguarded—at least temporarily. Each time a new child is born, the witch strikes again, but the infant always slips away to safety, leaving the mother to endure grief and uncertainty. The weight of hope presses down on the princess, who begins to doubt, until a loving father sends her a special gift that rekindles her strength and restores her faith. Her resolve is strengthened, even as her older sisters’ whispers tempt her to reveal Valemon’s face prematurely by lighting a candle while he sleeps—the moment that opens the door to the witch’s triumph.
Driven by guilt and determination, the princess sets off to rescue him. Along the way she encounters the queen mother and her three children, who bestow magical tools: scissors that conjure anything, boots that scale the tallest walls, and a rug that makes food appear with a simple clap. Armed with these gifts, she makes her way to the witch’s realm, where Valemon remains imprisoned in a guarded castle. Disguised as a boy, she crafts a wedding dress for the witch, while Valemon pretends to be under the spell of a potion she had secretly spilled. The wedding night becomes a fateful turning point: the princess slips into the witch’s laboratory, and as a procession of sinister guests gathers, she swaps their wine for the potion—while Valemon’s own fate remains untouched. The witch’s powers crumble, her slaves are freed, and the lovers are finally reunited with their children, returning to the Winterland and to the throne they promise to share with a wiser, more hopeful rule.
