The battlefield becomes a maelstrom of strategy and sacrifice. Katsura and Hitsugi engage in a brutal confrontation, trading blows as they try to outmaneuver each other around the heart of the operation. In a devastating turn, Hitsugi ultimately stabs and destroys Shouyou’s heart, a move that reveals a harsher truth: his goal was not to revive the child at all, but to strip away the curse of immortality from Utsuro. With the heart gone, Shouyou’s body, though capable of rapid regeneration, loses its long-term stability and can only sustain life for a short window before collapse.

Inside the terminal, the broader resistance intensifies. The Shinsengumi, Hyakka, Oniwabanshu, and the residents of Kabukicho rally against the remaining Tendoushuu forces, while Matsudaira takes aim at the ships patrolling the skies and tries to blunt the enemy’s external firepower. The scene underlines a city-wide effort, where ordinary saviors and veterans alike push back against an overwhelming threat, drawing strength from a shared resolve.

Amid the shattering bravado, Gintoki Sakata finds a moment to reunite with two trusted allies, Kagura and Shinpachi Shimura. His wish becomes painfully clear: to end his own life and, in the process, sever the tether that binds Utsuro to this world. Takasugi pleads with Shouyou to return to Shoka Sonjuku, to let the past guide a possible future, but the weight of what has happened pulls them in opposite directions.

Shouyou’s humility shines through as he admits failure to save his disciples—the friends and students who had trusted him most. It’s a moment of quiet, human consequence in the midst of cataclysm. As he nears Takasugi, a cruel twist of fate plays out: Takasugi stabs him, and the act reveals another horror—that Utsuro’s blood has also taken possession of Takasugi’s body. A massive explosion rocks the top of the Terminal, throwing Gintoki and his companions into a forced separation that marks a dramatic shift in the battle’s momentum.

The clash between Gintoki and Utsuro intensifies, with Utsuro now manifesting inside Takasugi’s shell. The confrontation reaches a fever pitch as it becomes clear that Takasugi’s earlier stabbing was part of a larger, darker plan. The truth emerges: Takasugi’s blood, infused with Utsuro’s parasitic influence, was the weapon, and the decisive moment comes when Utsuro’s own form realizes that the avatar he fights is a host — a host that has, in effect, chosen self-destruction over giving him continued power. In the end, Utsuro dies not by invulnerability but by mortality, brought down by a final, humanized struggle. The aftermath centers on care and evacuation. Gintoki cradles the dying Takasugi, who, with his last breath, acknowledges that Gintoki has won once again. Shinpachi and Kagura move to rescue the wounded Shouyou, reaffirming the Yorozuya’s stubborn commitment to those they care about. Shouyou, in a selfless pivot, urges everyone to evacuate the Terminal using Sakamoto’s ships. He explains that he can channel Altana within his body to neutralize the explosive energy tearing through the Terminal, a last act of protection for those he could not save in life. Time passes, and Tama awakens with memories of what occurred, memories that Tamako placed in her mind. Sakamoto keeps in touch, writing to Gintoki about Katsura reuniting with remnants of the Kiheitai, while Matako scours the land for Altana gates and unexpectedly discovers a newborn. Tama wanders this transformed landscape, seeking the spot where the Yorozuya used to be, only to find it replaced by futuristic structures. Yet the ending doesn’t settle easily, as Hasegawa’s lingering presence casts a shadow of doubt: the scene is revealed as a sham, a memory-altering ruse, and the Yorozuya’s bond remains unbroken.
