Sanju and Neetu are a married couple navigating the complexities of life. Neetu, feeling drained by the monotony of their existence, longs for the luxuries that wealth can provide, while Sanju, portrayed by Emraan Hashmi, is a former convict striving for a brighter future.
When Sanju is approached with an enticing offer to execute a daring heist by a middleman known as Pandit, who is accompanied by two menacing criminals, he finds himself at a crossroads. This high-stakes bank robbery promises a whirlwind of cash—specifically, a staggering 35 Crores—enough to alleviate all his financial worries. Initially hesitant, the mounting pressure from Neetu compels him to accept.
United with Pandit and Grease, Sanju successfully robs the bank, but complications arise when his partners choose to lay low for three months to evade capture while Sanju conceals their ill-gotten gains. However, upon their return for their cut, they discover that Sanju has seemingly lost his memory, claiming to be suffering from amnesia after an accident that sent him to Dr. Gulati at Fortis Hospital.
In a tense game of deception, the criminals decide to stay with Sanju and Neetu, played by Vidya Balan, to ensure he reveals the whereabouts of the stolen cash. Sanju scours every inch of their home, even uprooting their front lawn, but the money remains missing.
Neetu reminds him of a pivotal moment from the night of the heist when Sanju returned home in a rage after a run-in with a cab driver, and he documented the driver’s license plate. This memory propels Sanju on a quest, leading him to discover that the car incident occurred near the Rajesh Khanna garden, close to his friend’s new apartment.
As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Sanju suspects his friend Uttam has played a role in the disappearance of the money, particularly after learning that Uttam recently moved into a new place with lottery winnings—a fortune that might have come from the robbery funds. However, tensions build as suspicions arise around an implied affair between Neetu and Uttam.
Sanju’s search for the truth is punctuated by various twists, including unearthing a suitcase filled with nothing but books during an unexpected visit to an apartment. His frustration mounts when he discovers Uttam has fled to London, deepening his resentment. Neetu defends Uttam, causing Sanju’s doubts about her loyalty to fester.
The narrative escalates with threats from the criminal associates, leading Sanju desperate for answers, only to find Dr. Gulati deceased. The stakes rise as Sanju uncovers a hidden bank locker that Neetu refuses to open, amplifying the mistrust between them. An ominous anonymous call further complicates matters, demanding money and threatening to expose Sanju’s past.
As the climax unfolds, Sanju confronts Neetu and accuses her of conspiracy with Uttam, and insists she is planning a one-way trip to London, which she rebuffs, claiming it’s merely a visit to her sister. Just as Sanju’s mental state deteriorates, he loses recognition of his own accomplices, leading to chaos when the anonymous caller enters, resulting in a shocking flurry of violence.
In a gripping finale, the caller demands the money and shoots both Neetu and Sanju. A haunting reminder of family calls to Sanju’s mind, but he struggles to recall even that as the screen fades, leaving their fates uncertain.
