PV Mathai wins the gold medal at the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing, becoming one of the first Malayalis from Thrissur to achieve such a feat. His triumph brings the community a warm homecoming. He gifts the youth a ground and a sports club, which they name Mathaiparambu.

After the Games, Mathai is killed in a road accident. In his memory, a statue is erected on Mathaiparambu and the community mourns his passing.

With the statue and the ground, Mathaiparambu becomes a popular hangout for the local youth. The ground's original purpose as a sports venue fades as Vava, Pallan and Thankan begin loitering there.

Vava, Pallan and Thankan grow up loitering around the ground and meet George. After an incident where George is caught peeping through a bathroom, they declare him their leader.

Fr. Vadakkan, the local priest, hopes George will become a bishop and carry the family name. George attempts to impress by taking part in various community activities, but each effort ends in disaster.

Two outsiders propose starting a driving school in Mathaiparambu, claiming it is for ladies. The idea excites the locals, but they are disappointed when the school turns out to be run by old women.

Merlin, a singer, appears at the funeral of a local MLA and George instantly falls in love. He longs to know her name and plans to visit her to learn more.

George joins a marriage proposal plan with Vava's help, but in a carrom match he loses Rs 2000 to Kichu. He later takes Rs 2000 from the girl's father and gives it to Kichu, angering the father and causing the proposal to be canceled.

The driving school storyline shifts as Merlin appears and is drawn toward the convent; Merlin's mother explains she lacks the three qualities: desire, wish, and love. George notes her desire when she eats a nellikka, proving the first quality. Later, she saves him during a confrontation with a priest, proving the second quality (love).

A group of youths smoking weed outside leads to a clash, and Fr. Vadakkan slaps George in disappointment. His mother Mercykutty visits and warns him not to return to the house, deepening his troubles with the community.

Locals discover that Peter is PV Mathai's son and that he wants Mathaiparambu for himself. They confront the issue at Fr. Vadakkan's church, and Peter tries to win trust by offering to relinquish the land if needed.

In retaliation, the group sets up a stray dog conservation scheme on Mathaiparambu, which ends in disaster and tarnishes George's reputation. Peter suggests forming a Kabaddi team, which George accepts and begins training.

The next day, Josephettan is found dead on Mathaiparambu. Some Christians claim Josephettan is not Christian enough to be buried in the church, prompting George to insist on a burial at Mathaiparambu instead.

George confronts Peter about Josephettan's death and Peter issues a threat. He then leaves Peter's Kabaddi team and forms his own, which goes on to win against Peter's team.

Following investigations, Peter is arrested for Josephettan's murder, bringing some measure of justice to the tale at Mathaiparambu.
