In the end, it’s revealed that Sebastian, Mason’s old friend and the owner of the private security firm, had secretly been working for Koehorst, the mercenary leader hired by external corporations eager to exploit Paldonia’s rare earth minerals. His real plan was to have Mason killed so Koehorst could take over the country, with Sebastian’s betrayal ultimately exposed. Mason’s primary mission was not to protect Claire but to eliminate President Venegas, as it turns out that Koehorst’s missiles had actually been fired by one of Sebastian’s operatives to sabotage Venegas and enable the foreign mining interests to seize Paldonia’s resources. However, Mason unwittingly gets caught in this web of deception. Throughout the story, Mason’s loyalty shifts as he uncovers the truth behind the conspiracy. When he finally realizes that Venegas was fighting to protect his country’s sovereignty and that the attack was orchestrated by Koehorst, Mason is faced with a choice. In the climax, Mason, with Claire’s help, kills Koehorst and the remaining mercenaries, effectively ending the plot. Following the chaos, Venegas is saved, and the coup is foiled, leading to the reinstatement of his presidency and the eventual transition to democracy.
