Five Fingers

Martijn, a gifted Dutch jazz pianist, travels to Morocco to set up a food aid program and is soon kidnapped along with his British guide Gavin. They are bound and blindfolded by the captors. Gavin is shot dead, and Martijn is taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

The captors begin questioning Martijn about the source of the money. They play a game of chess to test him, and after he refuses to answer, his first finger is severed. The pressure grows as he is forced to reveal nothing.

Aicha returns to tend Martijn's wounds and, as he continues to refuse to reveal the money's origin, cuts off his second finger. The torture escalates as the captors press for information.

Ahmat brings Martijn news from newspapers to acclimate him to the situation and tests his willingness to tell the truth by suggesting he is a CIA agent. When Martijn still denies, Aicha cuts off his third finger.

The next day, Aicha removes Martijn's soiled clothing and gives him a bath. His confrontation turns to politics as he claims an idealist view, and Aicha accuses him of CIA training before cutting off his index finger.

Whenever Martijn is tortured, several flashbacks reveal his happy life back home in the Netherlands with his girlfriend Saadia. These memories underscore his personal stakes and resilience under torture.

Eventually, Martijn reveals that he is, in fact, a terrorist and was going to poison fast food, potentially killing thousands. He provides the names of those within the Holland terrorist cell funding him for his alleged food program.

Yousef, a man who had been filming Martijn, kills him after the confession. It is revealed that Ahmat is a CIA agent, turning the captors' dynamic on its head. Gavin is revealed to be alive and connected to the ongoing operation.

Gavin, who was believed dead earlier, is confirmed to be alive and working with Ahmat. The two are part of a larger covert enterprise rather than humanitarian aid workers.

Ahmat and Aicha go for a drink, and a shot of the Statue of Liberty confirms they have been in New York City all along. The twist ties together the previously hidden locations with a definitive geographic reveal.
