The Expendables are dispatched to Libya with a critical mission to stop mercenary Rahmat from acquiring nuclear warhead detonators. These detonators are intended for an ominous plot orchestrated by the terrorist known as Ocelot, threatening global peace.

The Expendables locate an old chemical factory, repurposed since the Gaddafi regime, where nuclear components are stored under heavy guard by Libyan army factions. Rahmat's forces already breach the facility, posing a significant challenge.

As the Expendables enter Libyan airspace, they come under immediate attack from surface-to-air missiles. They endure a rough landing followed by ground deployment, but Gunner shows signs of age, missing key shots due to his failing eyesight.

In a chaotic turn of events, Barney's plane is targeted and seemingly downed. The team discovers his remains, identified only by his ring, leading to heartbreak among the Expendables.

After Barney's memorial, CIA operative Marsh informs the remaining Expendables that their mission to take down Ocelot and Rahmat must continue. However, Christmas faces consequences for abandoning his pursuit to save Barney.

Christmas’s absence is filled by Gina, his former lover, who brings new operative Lash into the fold. The team travels to Asia to stop Rahmat's plan while Christmas secretly slips Gina a tracker.

Marsh provides crucial intel about Ocelot’s plans to instigate World War III by detonating nuclear warheads from a disguised ship. This alerts the team to the urgent need to stop Rahmat’s operations.

During a daring raid, the team is ambushed and taken prisoner aboard the ship. Marsh's true intentions come to light as he offers to release a witness in exchange for his freedom.

Christmas travels to Thailand on a mission to recruit Decha, a former fighter who has adopted a pacifist lifestyle. Despite his hesitation, Decha agrees to help in avenging Barney and rescuing the team.

As the action escalates aboard the ship, Christmas and Decha discover a nuclear bomb, realizing that the only way to disarm it involves a kill switch that Rahmat likely possesses. Time is of the essence.

In a fierce showdown, Christmas defeats Rahmat, who reveals that only Ocelot has the kill switch necessary to stop the bomb. This adds urgency to the mission, as the stakes continue to rise.

The truth is revealed when Marsh is identified as Ocelot, having killed the witness and masterminded the catastrophic scheme. His plan is to profit from igniting a global conflict.

In a miraculous twist, Barney reappears, having staged his demise to draw Ocelot out. Together, he and Christmas confront Marsh, leading to a climactic battle to save the world.

A dramatic explosion ignites during the confrontation, sinking the ship and averting disaster. The Expendables narrowly escape, celebrating their hard-won victory as a united team once more.
