At the Antenna Company seminar, Allegra Geller is celebrated as the 'goddess of the gamepod.' She presents eXistenZ, a cutting-edge game system made of organic materials, igniting excitement among the attendees who eagerly volunteer to try it out.

Ted, a game company employee, is assigned to screen participant Noel Dichter for recording devices. Noel, nervous and equipped with an outdated gamepod, becomes increasingly agitated as the demonstration nears, setting a tense atmosphere.

As players start their immersive experience in eXistenZ, Noel suddenly pulls out a gun and shoots Allegra in the shoulder. The chaos that ensues leads to quick action from security, while Ted takes control of the situation by seizing the gun and helping Allegra escape.

During their escape, Allegra takes decisive action to protect their whereabouts by discarding Ted’s phone. Ted performs a hasty medical procedure using a pocketknife to remove a bullet from Allegra, only to discover it is actually a tooth.

Allegra and Ted arrive at a motel where Ted considers contacting Antenna for help. However, Allegra insists they first test the game, but the absence of a bio-port for Ted complicates matters and drives their next decision.

At a gas station, Allegra encounters attendant Gas, who agrees to install an illegal bio-port for Ted after recognizing her. The installation leads to complications as the gamepod malfunctions when Allegra connects it.

As the malfunction escalates, Gas returns with a shotgun, aiming to harm Allegra. In a desperate move, Ted reacts quickly and shoots Gas to protect Allegra, leading them to flee once again.

Allegra and Ted escape to an abandoned ski club where Allegra entrusts her ski boot to Kiri Vinokur for safekeeping. Kiri and another character, Landry, work to fix Allegra’s gamepod, allowing the duo to once again enter the game.

Once inside the game, Ted encounters NPCs that replicate his actions, leading to confusion regarding the nature of reality. Allegra cryptically tells him he needs to play to understand why he is playing.

As they navigate the game, Ted realizes that their actions lead them to a trout farm disguising as a front for making game pods. Yevgeny reveals sinister plans of developing undetectable weapons, prompting paranoia about their situation.

Upon returning to the game shop, Ted and Allegra find the owner D'Arcy Nader dead. Hugo Carlaw introduces the idea of a realist underground, further complicating their understanding of the game and their mission.

Tragedy strikes as Allegra ports into a game pod but faints due to a bleeding wound. Ted’s desperate intervention leads to chaos as Yevgeny appears and sets the pod ablaze, spurring a frantic retreat.

Back at the ski lodge, Allegra and Ted confront the reality of their game being infiltrated, as a cashier from the game threatens them. The situation escalates when Kiri turns against them in this pivotal moment.

As Ted grapples with the moral implications of the unfolding violence, Allegra detonates a bomb hidden within his bio-port. This moment of betrayal marks a turning point as Allegra believes she has triumphed.

In a shocking twist, Allegra and Ted awaken back at the seminar, with the audience applauding their performance. However, uncertainty looms as Yevgeny and a haunting question from the Chinese waiter blur the lines between game and reality.
