Ramu is an innocent and cowardly heir to the riches of Poonjolai zamin. He is raised by his sister Susheela and her husband Gajendran, who maintains strict control over him with whiplashes. Gajendran schemes to force Ramu to marry Leela for her wealth and to extract a dowry, threatening to expel him if he refuses. When Ramu overhears the plot, he slips away and runs from the house, beginning his uncertain journey.

Ilango is a jobless young man prone to fights. He chases a thief who steals Leela's purse, and Leela mistakes him for Ramu and brings him home. He enjoys the attention but keeps his true identity hidden for now.

Santha, a village girl, finds Ramu unconscious from hunger and carries him back to his mother. Her kindness reunites Ramu with his family and helps him begin to face the world again. The episode marks the start of his deeper involvement with the village’s people.

Ilango challenges Gajendran's authority and teaches him a hard lesson in how power is exercised. The confrontation is witnessed by others and unsettles the household balance. At the same time, Ramu starts to learn the ways of the world, gaining a broader view beyond his prior fear.

Gajendran abducts Govindan, a friend of Ilango, to learn his whereabouts. Gajendran's goons then kidnap Ramu, mistaking him for Ilango. The two abductions heighten the stakes and bring the brothers closer to a confrontation.

It is revealed that Ramu and Ilango are brothers who were separated in childhood during Panguni Uthiram in Palani. Ilango, born Lakshmanan, was adopted by a childless couple who renamed him Ilango. This shared past explains their bond and the mistaken identity that fueled earlier conflicts.

Ilango arrives to rescue Ramu, and after a clash, Gajendran sees them together and undergoes a change of heart. The rescue marks a turning point in the family’s fortunes and sets the stage for reconciliation. The brothers’ reunion shifts the power dynamics within the household.

Ramu marries Santha and Ilango marries Leela, with the blessings of Gajendran and all family members. The families consolidate their ties and welcome the newly joined couples. The film closes on a note of harmony and restored kinship.
