Don't Be Afraid of the Dark

Sally Farnham and her husband Alex receive news of an unexpected inheritance from Sally's recently departed grandmother. They inherit an old mansion, which brings a mixture of excitement and apprehension as they move into their new home.

As Sally explores the mansion, she discovers a bricked-up fireplace in the basement den. The estate's handyman, Mr. Harris, warns her that it had been sealed by her grandmother after the death of her grandfather, suggesting that it should remain undisturbed.

Driven by curiosity, Sally attempts to pry open the bricks but instead manages to open a small door meant for ash disposal. Behind this door lies a dark and foreboding sub-basement, hinting at mysteries yet to unfold.

After her unsettling discovery, as Sally leaves the den, she hears a chilling whisper echoing in the air, saying, 'She set us free.' This moment intensifies her anxiety about her new home.

Sally is jolted awake one night by disembodied whispers calling her name, followed by an ashtray that inexplicably tumbles from her nightstand. Despite her fears, Alex remains skeptical, believing her distress is simply due to nerves.

While descending the staircase, Sally suddenly feels something grasping at her dress. Accompanied by eerie whispers saying, 'We want you,' she barely escapes, leading to increased paranoia.

During a dinner party with Alex's law firm colleagues, Sally notices a grotesque goblin-like creature lurking beneath the table. Her scream goes unheard, and the creature vanishes before anyone else can witness it, leaving her feeling isolated.

While taking a shower, Sally is horrified when three goblin creatures extinguish the lights and attempt to attack her with a razor. When she turns the lights back on, they retreat, leaving her shaken and terrified.

While planning a visit to her friend Joan, Sally is ambushed by the creatures, leading to a fatal accident for her interior decorator. This danger heightens her urgency to understand what the creatures want.

In a desperate confrontation, Sally asks the creatures what they desire. They chillingly reveal that they covet her spirit, and that whoever liberates them, as she did, must sacrifice their essence to join them.

To cope with her fears, Sally's doctor prescribes sedatives, and her friend Joan stays with her for support. Joan starts to believe Sally’s terrifying story, but the creatures' influence only grows stronger.

Despite her attempts to secure her safety, the creatures sabotage Sally’s efforts, slipping sedatives into her coffee and cutting the power. Their sinister influence becomes increasingly apparent as they ensnare Joan outside.

As Sally struggles to remain conscious, she decides to descend into the dark, only to be tripped by the goblins. In her weakened state, she is captured and dragged into the basement den, marking a critical turning point.

In a shocking twist, Sally transforms into one of the very creatures that haunted her, lying in wait for the next unsuspecting victim. Her fate is now intertwined with the mansion’s dark history.
