Dogs in Space

In the lively community of Richmond, Melbourne, a group of free-spirited youths coexist in a shared home, cultivating a space filled with music, art, and self-expression. Central to this eclectic group are Sam (Michael Hutchence) and Tim (Nique Needles), the driving forces behind the band Dogs in Space. They navigate the complexities of their relationships with housemates that include Anna (Saskia Post), a university student, Luchio (Tony Helou), an artist at heart, and the mysterious The Girl (Deanna Bond).

As the story unfolds, it becomes evident that the film is less about dramatic plot developments and more about capturing the essence of everyday life. The audience is drawn into a world where tender moments coexist with raucous parties characterized by music, dance, and substance use, showcasing the group’s indulgent lifestyle. During these festivities, the characters embark on spontaneous road trips to Ballarat, a quaint town known for being Melbourne’s closest neighbor with a 24-hour convenience store. These adventures are filled with comedic interactions, including encounters with a cantankerous neighbor (Joe Camilleri) and Tim’s fast-talking uncle (Chris Haywood), who makes a surprise visit wielding a chainsaw.
