Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2022) Timeline Explained – Every Event in Order

Greg loosens the doorknob to Rodrick's bedroom door as part of a plan to gain leverage over his brother. By capturing evidence of the party on his camera, Greg creates material he can use as blackmail to force Rodrick into compliance whenever he needs something. This clever scheme is Greg's way of turning the tables on Rodrick after being forced to do all the work while Rodrick enjoys the party.

When Greg and Rodrick learn their parents are coming home early due to Manny getting sick, they desperately try to hide evidence of the party. They swap Rodrick's bedroom door, which has his band's name 'Rodrick Rules' on it, with the plain bathroom door to hide the fact that a party took place. Rodrick Rules is a guide Rodrick shares with Greg that teaches how to get things done while doing minimal work. It represents Rodrick's lazy, resourcefulness philosophy, finding shortcuts and avoiding effort wherever possible. The concept comes from Rodrick's bedroom door inscription, which reads 'Rodrick Rules,' making it both a literal door label and a metaphorical system for getting by with little effort.

Mom Bucks is a fake currency created by Rodrick that circulates within the family. Rodrick uses them to pay Greg and others for favors, and they can be redeemed for real rewards from their mother Susan. The system becomes a point of contention when Greg uses Mom Bucks to get Rodrick to help with his life science project, and later when Greg demands compensation after being disappointed with Rodrick's minimal effort.
