When Katherine and Spencer are en route to their father’s house, they find themselves caught in a blizzard that halts all plane flights at Hoover International. In this moment of chaos, Zach Van Bourke (Wilmer Valderrama) leads Katherine and Spencer to the UM room (Unaccompanied Minors Room), a vast concrete space filled with a lively group of rambunctious kids. Here, Spencer encounters a colorful cast of characters, including Donna, Charlie, Grace, and Beef.

Together, the five children hatch a plan to escape the confines of the UM room and embark on an adventure to make the most of their situation. Spencer grabs a quick bite, while Grace heads to a more entertaining spot known as the high-fliers room. Meanwhile, Donna seizes an opportunity to commandeer a golf cart within the airport, Beef explores the safety equipment room, and Charlie showcases his vocal talents at Sharper Image. Their antics, however, don’t go unnoticed, and soon they’re rounded up and returned to the UM room, only to find it eerily empty.

As a consequence of their mischief, the kids receive a stern lecture from Oliver (Lewis Black), the airport’s authority figure. Unfortunately, all the children, including Spencer’s little sister, are relegated to sleeping in the unkempt UM room on Christmas Eve. Determined not to let that dampen their spirits, the kids devise a clever ruse to outsmart Zach Van Bourke, enabling their escape from the lackluster UM room.

As they venture out, Beef pledges to find a Christmas tree for Spencer’s sister in hopes of brightening her holiday. However, tensions flair when Donna and Grace get into a petty squabble. The group collaborates to distract the guards by releasing a dog from its cage, ultimately leading them to the intriguing unclaimed baggage warehouse where they discover various treasures. Charlie unearths four walkie-talkies, while Spencer finds an adorable doll, both of which are destined to play pivotal roles in their adventure.

Just as they begin to feel the thrill of their exploits, they are spotted on camera, triggering a frantic escape from Oliver and the guards. The brave quartet makes their way to the lodge to reunite with Spencer’s sister, delivering the doll he found. In a comical twist, Charlie and Donna knock on random doors, shifting the blame to Oliver, resulting in a dramatic altercation that ends with Oliver receiving an unexpected punch.

Spencer, displaying brotherly care, places the doll next to his sleeping sister, but soon enough, Oliver catches them in the act. Spencer respectfully implores Oliver not to wake his sister, but the group is swiftly escorted back to private rooms, now under the watchful eyes of guards. However, all four kids are still equipped with their walkie-talkies, which become their means of escape through the ceiling vents.

In a wild turn of events, Charlie tumbles through the ceiling and lands amidst holiday decorations. Inspired by their newfound freedom, the kids take it upon themselves to adorn the airport with festive cheer, transforming it into a Christmas wonderland. Beef returns after an arduous journey, triumphantly bringing back a Christmas tree. Oliver, who has his own holiday grief stemming from his wife leaving him on Christmas, ultimately finds a reason to celebrate. Acknowledging their endeavors, he dresses as Santa, complete with gifts for all unaccompanied travelers.

In a heartwarming finale, Spencer reunites with Katherine, welcomed by their father who has traveled all the way from Pennsylvania to join them. Despite his car breaking down along the way, he persevered with a Hummer, making it just in time for their reunion. Thus, the chaotic night at the airport becomes not just a challenge but a bonding experience filled with adventure and the spirit of Christmas.
