Death Do Us Part

Emily Hawkins is the true killer throughout the story. She killed Derrick with an axe during the scavenger hunt, knifed Hannah while wearing a burlap sack, and intended to murder Ryan to cover her tracks. After bludgeoning the real Kennedy, Emily stole her wedding gown and impersonated her at the ranger station.

Emily is the one who suggests the scavenger hunt, giving her opportunity to lure Derrick into the woods alone.

Emily kills Derrick and Hannah to protect herself from exposure. She reveals to Kennedy that she killed Derrick after he tried to assault her, and she killed Hannah because Hannah saw her with the axe. She intended to kill Ryan because he was about to discover the truth. Chet and Bo were killed as collateral damage when they stumbled upon her actions.

Emily's sudden appearance after the attacks and her claim of faking injury set up her deceptive nature.

Bo is later found dying from a head wound, making him a victim rather than the perpetrator. He was likely attacked by Emily to frame him or silence him.

The killer wields the same axe that killed Derrick, but Bo is found wounded, not wielding it actively.

Kennedy's described mental illness flares up under the stress of wedding preparations, making her volatile and unstable throughout the party. This instability contributes to the group's suspicion toward her when murders occur, as her behavior becomes erratic. Her mental state also makes her vulnerable to manipulation and less able to accurately assess who among the group poses a real threat.

Ryan's affair with his fiancée Kennedy's half-sister Hannah is a major source of tension and betrayal. The affair is revealed early in the party, devastating Kennedy and creating conflict between all three characters. Ryan's infidelity also makes him a suspect when murders occur, as his motive to silence Hannah (or be silenced by her) could be questioned. Ultimately, Ryan's cruel revelation that he never loved Kennedy triggers her fatal attack.

Hannah's presence at the party and her secret relationship with Ryan create underlying tension from the start.
