Dead Mine

A curious pirate slips away from the raiding crew and stumbles into a hidden tunnel system that runs beneath the island. The passageways hint at a long-forgotten network carved into rock, suggesting there is more below than anyone suspects. This discovery foreshadows the danger and treasure that lie ahead.

Warren Price leads an expedition to the former Japanese bunker on Una-Una, accompanied by Rie, Su-Ling and a skilled team including Captain Tino Prawa, Djoko, Ario, Papa Snake, and Stanley. They travel across the Gulf of Tomini toward Sulawesi to uncover the bunker’s secrets and the rumored treasure. The group’s dynamics are tested from the start as rival motives surface.

Upon reaching the Dutch-operated mine turned bunker, pirates ambush the group and force them inside. A pirate grenade collapses the entrance, trapping Ario and cutting off their exit. With escape impossible for the moment, they are compelled to press deeper into the maze of underground chambers.

As they descend, Price’s stated aim expands beyond wealth into a perilous fusion of treasure and science. He and Rie work to decode messages from a prior expedition that hint at Yamashita’s gold and a mutagenic formula buried within the bunker. The possibility of profiting from or weaponizing the mutagen becomes a driving force for the group.

Strange signals greet them: lights flare on walls, a Rising Sun banner appears, and a propagandistic song crackles through the communications link. The atmosphere grows oppressive as the party senses a second, unseen threat lurking in the tunnels. Despite misgivings, they press onward through the abandoned Japanese complex.

The party learns the bunker was used for chemical and biological weapons research inspired by Unit 731, where prisoners were subjected to horrific experiments. Hazmat-clad figures stalk the corridors, confirming the horrors that lie beneath the surface. The group realizes they are not just hunting treasure but escaping a living nightmare.

The team splits: Prawa, Papa Snake, Price, and Su-Ling search for a way out and the gold, while Djoko, Stanley, and Rie stay behind to guard Ario. Ario is suddenly attacked by a monstrous creature and dragged into the tunnels. A chamber of human remains becomes a battleground as Djoko fights off more attackers with dwindling weaponry.

Rie and Stanley fall prey to a gas-masked Japanese soldier who refuses to admit the war is over. Stanley manages to disarm him, and Rie shows footage of the Japanese surrender on the USS Missouri, breaking the soldier’s resolve. The encounter reveals a fragile, uneasy détente amid rising danger.

Captain Prawa’s squad is ambushed by another monstrous creature while Price is seriously wounded. A shot barely keeps Price alive, and Papa Snake sacrifices himself with an improvised spear to kill the creature. The toll of the battle deepens the group’s resolve to press on.

The Japanese soldier finally explains that a mutagenic gas from Unit 731 drove prisoners insane and mutated them into monsters, and that some of the gold was shipped here to fuel the mutagenic formulas. Price and Su-Ling decide to smuggle a sample out, hoping to profit from or weaponize the discovery. The stakes grow as the plan becomes more desperate.

They stumble upon a shrine filled with dozens of creatures wearing samurai armor—the Imperial Guards—revealing the full scale of the mutagenic program. Papa Snake makes a heroic last stand to buy time for the others to escape, while Price, Su-Ling and Prawa press on, only to encounter Djoko’s corpse and renewed ambush. The survivors brace for an overwhelming flood of monsters.

Su-Ling abandons the others, dragging Price through a doorway and locking it behind her. The mutagenic dose drives Price insane, and he kills Su-Ling in a brutal act. With the others scattered, the remaining survivors push toward safety through the collapsing tunnels.

Price’s madness continues as the mission devolves into a desperate escape. Rie and Stanley manage to flee through an underwater tunnel system as Imperial Guards flood the lake. Only Rie reaches safety, and the film ends with her fate left hanging amid the murky depths.
