The Crypt

In 1979, a solitary Grave Robber slips into a crypt in search of jewelry, but greed meets its comeuppance as the undead ambush him after he uncovers and clutches more riches than he can carry.

Decades later, a man is shown stepping out from prison, and his girlfriend picks him up at the gate to head to a meeting with friends. Among the group is a seasoned thief, a woman who insists she can amass a fortune quickly by raiding the crypt beneath the city. She unveils a gold ring she claims to have retrieved from below and explains a quirk of history: during the Great Depression, wealthy families feared confiscation by the government and buried their jewelry with ancestral remains, hoping it would stay hidden and intact.

Initially, the others are wary and tempted to bail, but the ringleader’s persuasive argument sways them to participate in the plan.

The crew descends into the crypt and fills their backpacks with diamond necklaces and other priceless pieces retrieved from the concrete coffins. Yet, one by one, the undead rise, continuing their grim revenge against those who dared steal what was meant to be buried. As the tension escalates, the group is pared down until only the ringleader and the girlfriend remain alive, managing to escape the crypt with their lives.

Back at the ringleader’s apartment, a stunning, diamond-studded piece of jewelry—believed to have been tucked away in her brassiere before the treasure hunt—reenters the story. She shows it to a friend, who fears the perilous lure of the jewelry and urges her to dispose of it. The ringleader hides the treasure in her car, but the same undead predator ultimately claims her as well.

A final, haunting dream unsettles the surviving woman, who imagines that her boyfriend—the man recently released from prison—is now an undead, furious that she left him in the crypt. Compelled to confront the truth, she returns to the crypt and confronts the possibility that all the jewelry may not be gone. She discards the remaining pieces into the water, but the undead still looms nearby. Her boyfriend is killed in a brutal head-crushing act, leaving the survivor numb with shock as the crypt’s darkness closes in, and the movie ends.
