In a tense London heist, Alex masterminds a daring plan to steal millions of pounds in untraceable, used banknotes stored in the underground vaults of the London Exchange Bank, waiting to be incinerated. His unlikely crew includes Lucky, Matty, Terry, along with Chubby, Norman and Jay. To sell the ruse, they fashion an alibi by checking in for a flight to Germany to join thousands of England supporters heading to the 2006 FIFA World Cup. But their real plan unfolds in the wrong wing of the airport: instead of heading to the departure lounge, they go to the car park, pile into a van, and drive into Central London with a single, daring objective.

The scheme hinges on a bold, physically intimate escape route: a tunnel they have already dug beneath the bank to siphon the cash out within a few hours, giving them just enough time to catch a flight to Germany. They also plant an accomplice among the hostages, a move designed so that, once the police close in, this person can help seal the exit and slip away with the freed crowd. The operation begins smoothly enough as they breach the bank’s doors, but trouble starts to bubble when bad luck and injuries strike the team.

Inside the bank, chaos and urgency collide. Chubby sustains a serious leg wound when he is forced through the van’s back window, and Norman must maneuver the vehicle while backing it through the front doors. Chubby loses a dangerous amount of blood, and the situation forces the robbers to coordinate with the police outside and to permit a doctor into the crime scene to tend to the injured man. The rest of the crew continues to retrieve the cash, and they manage to slip out through the tunnel with the bags of money, moving quickly toward their carefully staged exit.

Yet the endgame hinges on one final gamble. Norman is the last man out when a section of the tunnel collapses, trapping him underground. Alex makes a split‑second choice, sending everyone else toward the airport and then extracting Norman from the wreckage, delivering him to the terminal in a cab so he can catch a last‑minute flight. The plan continues to edge forward, but the story’s conclusion reveals a grim twist of fate and justice.

The aftermath ties the threads back to the very first misstep. Chubby never recovers from his leg wound and dies when the plane lands in Germany, a development that gives the police a crucial link between the crime scene and Matty. Working backward, investigators reconstruct the gang’s original plan, exposing the blueprint that had kept them one step ahead. Yet Alex himself vanishes with the money, avoiding capture by not traveling to Germany. He is shown later to be supporting the rest of the gang through their prison terms and even aiding Chubby’s widow, a chilling reminder of how the mastermind remains unseen while the consequences ripple outward.
