Bruce Garrett, a former salsa champion who once dazzled the crowd alongside his sister, Sam, now leads a more unassuming life as an engineer. After suffering severe bullying in his youth, which forced him to abandon his dancing dreams prior to the National finals, Bruce finds himself in a complicated situation 25 years later. His new American boss, Julia, unexpectedly sparks a romantic interest in him, especially given her own enthusiasm for salsa dancing.

Determined to win her affection, Bruce embarks on a journey to reclaim his passion for dance. He reunites with his former instructor, Ron, who challenges him to face the deep-seated fears that have haunted him since childhood. Adding to the difficulties, Bruce grapples with insecurities about his weight and deals with a persistent bully at work, Drew, who sees Julia as nothing more than a conquest.

With encouragement from his salsa classmates, Sam, and a supportive community, Bruce gradually builds his self-confidence, rekindling his lost “corazón” (heart) for both dance and life. A transformative moment occurs when his classmate Bejan convinces him to visit a salsa club, leading to a makeover that makes him feel more vibrant. However, Bruce faces setbacks, especially when Drew and Julia’s chemistry distract him during a crucial dance, leaving him feeling deflated.

Yet, with Ron’s relentless guidance, Bruce undergoes significant growth, culminating in a mini dance-off with Drew that fuels his self-esteem. As his friends rally behind him, they motivate him to enter a local salsa competition, where he hopes to have Julia as his partner. However, a miscommunication leads him to believe he has disrupted an evening between Julia and Drew, causing him to retreat from asking her out.

On her end, Julia becomes aware of Drew’s true intentions and rejects him, ultimately seeking out Bruce at the nightclub. There, amid a familiar routine with Sam, Bruce prepares for the competition’s final round. Seeing Julia in the audience ignites a passion within him, and he finally musters the courage to invite her to dance. Despite losing the competition, Bruce not only rediscovers his passion for salsa but also wins Julia’s heart in the process, celebrating the triumph of self-acceptance and love.
