CROWN VIC kicks off with a blaring alarm resonating from a bank in downtown Los Angeles, where two heavily armed men exchange gunfire with the police. This intense moment harks back to the infamous 1997 North Hollywood shootout, and following the chaos, the criminals manage to vanish into the gritty landscape of Los Angeles.

As night falls, LAPD veteran Ray Mandel prepares for his patrol shift, sliding behind the wheel of a Crown Vic. He’s set to train the eager rookie Nick Holland, who is keen to prove himself and escape the daunting legacy of his renowned LAPD father. During their patrol, the weight of the department’s alertness looms large as two cop killers remain at large. Nick quickly discovers the harsh realities of life as a patrol officer in a city that can simultaneously captivate with its allure and shock with sudden violence. This is a world where police navigate the night, combating the unseen battles between good and evil that allow the rest of us to sleep peacefully, blissfully ignorant of the chaos lurking outside.

For Ray, the Crown Vic is more than just a vehicle; it’s a sanctuary where order reigns. Yet, he grapples with the reality that at his age, the department seems eager to push him out—a fate he is acutely aware of but ill-prepared to confront.

Their journey that night takes a grim turn when a welfare check on the widow of Ray’s late partner reveals she has fallen back into drug use and that her daughter is missing. To complicate matters, Ray must deal with the erratic behavior of Jack Van Zandt, a high-strung bipolar cop, and his sycophantic partner Stroke Adams, who are prowling their territory, eager to settle an old score with a suspect who has resurfaced.

When Ray uncovers the location of the missing girl, he takes matters into his own hands, deciding to go off the grid to rescue her. Despite knowing the risks and that they would likely face consequences, a resolute Ray insists on acting, revealing to Nick that the girl is actually his daughter, a product of an affair with his deceased partner’s wife. This revelation shakes Nick to his core, prompting him to realize just how closely their lives mirror each other. Ray represents what can become of talented young officers, a stark cautionary tale for Nick.

As their shift draws to a close, Nick attempts his first independent operation—a routine traffic stop while Ray watches.
