Couples Retreat

Dave, a Guitar Hero dealer, and Ronnie, a devoted stay-at-home mom, daily navigate the challenges of raising their two young children. Their lives are filled with the stresses of home redecorating and managing familial responsibilities in the suburbs of Chicago.

High school sweethearts Joey and Lucy are facing difficulties in their marriage while also dealing with their bright and innocent teenage daughter, Lacey. They contemplate the possibility of divorce as Lacey prepares to leave for college.

Jason and Cynthia are a couple grappling with anxiety stemming from their multiple failed attempts to conceive. This struggle informs their perspective, especially as they intersect paths with other couples during their respective crises.

During Dave's son’s birthday party, Jason and Cynthia unveil their marital troubles through a PowerPoint presentation. Their proposal for a couples therapy retreat named Eden aims to help them overcome their challenges and possibly others as well.

Jason and Cynthia pitch the Eden retreat, adorned with beautiful images of sun-soaked beaches. They present a cost-effective deal called the Pelican Package that requires the recruitment of three other couples.

Despite Dave and Ronnie's initial refusal to leave their children behind, the kids overhear their conversation. Concerned about their parents’ potential divorce, they secretly arrange for Grandpa Jim-Jim to babysit, allowing their parents to attend the retreat.

Upon arrival at the Eden retreat, couples are divided into two sides: Eden West for pairs and Eden East for singles. The attendees are informed that they must not mingle across the two areas.

In Eden West, couples are introduced to their accommodations and the rule that therapy starts at 6 a.m. daily. Non-compliance is seen as a desire to leave, which could cost them their fees but not airfare.

Each couple meets their dedicated therapist who insists they all have issues that need addressing. The unconventional therapy methods employed, including swimming with lemon sharks, challenge their comfort zones.

After four evenings of therapy, Trudy escapes to Eden East, prompting the remaining couples to begin a search for her. This leads to heightened tensions among the couples, revealing deep-seated issues.

During their search, the women bump into Salvadore, who guides them to Eden East. Meanwhile, the men discover Sctanley in the staff lounge, engaged in Guitar Hero, where Dave challenges him to a game.

Upon reaching Eden East, Dave has a significant realization about the importance of his relationship with Ronnie while enjoying solitude by a serene waterfall. Emotional moments unfold as couples explore their feelings.

In Eden East, Joey confronts Lucy about her interactions with Salvadore, leading to a heartfelt reunion. Simultaneously, Jason and Cynthia find intimacy over drinks, signifying personal growth amidst struggles.

By the conclusion of the retreat, all four couples have experienced transformation due to their time spent together. They return to Eden West, fortified by their experiences at Eden East.
