Corregidor

Aboard a transport to Manoi Island, doctor Royce Lee and her maid Hyacinth arrive in the Philippines just before the Pearl Harbor attack. Royce and her fiancé, Dr. Jan Stockman, are married by a local priest, but the ceremony is interrupted by the bombardment. Hyacinth is killed in the bombing, marking the first tragedy to strike the group.

With Japanese invasion forces surrounding them, Royce, Jan, and a small group join American soldiers on a brutal forced march toward Manila, some 600 miles away. Supplies are scant and the danger is constant as enemy forces press in. The march tests endurance and willpower.

The group comes under increasing attack as they press on. Jan Stockman is wounded, and the group's leader falls ill with malaria. In a drastic act to avoid stalling the retreat, the ill commander commits suicide.

A few days later the tired survivors reach the rocky island of Corregidor, where American forces are holding out in a cavern. They prepare to endure a prolonged siege as supplies dwindle. The new environment shifts to a claustrophobic frontline hospital setting.

On Corregidor, Pinky Mason reunites with nurse Jane 'Hey-Dutch' Van Dornen, his girlfriend, amid the tense siege. Their relationship provides a personal thread amid the grim conditions.

Royce and Jan work in the army hospital, and Royce realizes her former love, Dr. Michael, is also present on Corregidor. The hospital becomes a focal point for personal and medical struggles as supplies dwindle.

The defenders face a relentless Japanese assault as supplies run critically low. Every day brings more strain as casualties mount and morale frays under constant pressure.

Dutch, serving as a stretcher bearer, is wounded and lies on her deathbed as Pinky and she marry before she dies. The moment marks a brief, poignant wedding amid the chaos.

Jan Stockman is wounded again and dies when the makeshift hospital is bombed. The loss of the doctors and soldiers further strains the remaining group.

With dwindling ammunition, Pinky and the soldiers engage in hand-to-hand combat with Japanese forces. The desperate fighting continues in the ruins, amid rubble and shattered defenses.

Under cover during an air raid, Royce delivers a Filipino baby, providing a beacon of life amid death. She learns from Michael that her husband has died, deepening her personal losses.

Royce and the nurses are ordered to evacuate immediately. She vows to reunite with Michael after the war, clinging to hope as chaos continues.

Pinky serves as tail gunner on the evacuation aircraft but dies in a valiant defense of the nurses, sacrificing himself to protect the wounded.

Back on Corregidor, shortages force Michael to operate on the wounded without painkillers or gloves. The improvised medical care underscores the brutal realities of war.

As the radio operator files his last report from home in the United States, Royce sheds tears for the friends lost and the uncertain future ahead. The report caps the film's timeline with a bittersweet acknowledgment.
