Conflict of Interest

In Los Angeles, Patty Flannery is killed in front of her young son Jason, a tragedy that shatters Mickey's life. He sinks into mourning and alcoholism, unable to protect his family. The murder becomes the wound that drives Mickey for years to come.

Seven years after Patty's death, Mickey returns to the Los Angeles Police Department, now working in Homicide under Captain Garland. He resumes a police routine while still haunted by personal losses. He begins pursuing a car-ring case, though his captain remains skeptical about linking it to homicide.

Mickey is in a relationship with Vera and longs to reunite with his estranged son. The personal pull toward family contrasts with the violence and duty he faces at work. This tension fuels the drama as the case tightens around Jason.

During a routine moment, gunshots erupt when two cars drive by and Trasher is killed in cold blood. Gideon, a car repair shop owner, and his muscular partner Casey are revealed as the killers behind the drive-by. The murder drags Jason deeper into Gideon's world and its dangers.

Jason encounters Eve, a tough high-school girl who becomes his girlfriend and introduces him to Gideon and his club. The heavy-metal scene exposes Jason to a dangerous underworld where loyalties are tested. Eve's fixation on Jason raises the stakes as Gideon gauges his vulnerabilities.

Jason goes home with Gloria, a club coworker, and they have a sexual encounter. The night deepens Jason's entanglement with Gideon's circle and foreshadows the violence to come. Mickey's growing suspicion about his son's ties starts to sharpen.

While investigating Gloria's death, Mickey finds a letter signed by Jason in her room and realizes his son is entangled in the case. He chooses to conceal this crucial evidence at first, fearing the consequences of exposing Jason too soon. The discovery deepens the rift between father and son and complicates the investigation.

Mickey hurries to San Pedro High School to confront Jason, hoping for answers, but Gideon interrupts and warns him off. Gideon then offers Jason a job as a sound engineer at his club, and Jason accepts, pulling him further into Gideon’s orbit. The encounter cements the dangerous tie between Jason and Gideon.

Gideon’s car matches the one seen after Trasher's killing, so Mickey tails him to his home and cuffs him, confronting him about the murders. The police captain interrupts, revealing that Gideon has an alibi for Gloria's death and that he’s built alibis for every worker. Gideon’s manipulation becomes clear as he tries to control the narrative.

Gideon uses Shannon to distract Jason, and he watches as Jason blacks out during a sexual encounter. Shannon’s murder shocks Mickey and raises the stakes as the captain grows suspicious that Jason might be involved. Mickey is ultimately fired for breaking protocol.

With help from his old friend Ray Dureen and colleague Oakes, Mickey starts building a case that Gideon is framing Jason. They suspect Detective Falcone and trace suspicious leads to Gideon’s waterfront dock. The alliance expands as buried loyalties surface.

Falcone is killed by Gideon at the dock while Mickey is captured by Gideon’s men. Jason arrives to rescue them, and Gideon dies in an explosion that destroys his operation. Ray finally confesses his involvement in the car ring and Patty’s death, and Mickey, urged by Jason, chooses to turn Ray in to the police.
