Cold Comes the Night

In a run-down motel situated in a small town, Chloe, a single mother, strives to navigate the harsh realities of her life while caring for her daughter, Sophia. This motel serves as her sanctuary, providing the means to make ends meet. Meanwhile, Topo, a blind man accompanied by his associate Quincy, arrives in their reliable Jeep. They stop at Chloe’s motel, where Quincy indulges in the services of local prostitute Gwen, eventually convincing Topo to spend the night. As the evening descends, a heated argument between Quincy and Gwen escalates, leading to a tragic shooting that shocks Chloe awake to a horrifying scene.

Chloe’s existence is shattered when she discovers the lifeless bodies of Gwen and Quincy. The police soon arrive, and Billy, her police acquaintance and Gwen’s pimp, tries to downplay the horrific events. However, Chloe stands her ground, sharing her fears as a single mother and the threat of losing custody of her precious Sophia. Just then, Topo appears, his vision obscured by much more than just blindness.

The following day brings even more chaos as Topo takes Chloe and Sophia hostage in a frantic attempt to retrieve his stolen Jeep. Police respond promptly, sending a squad car to her position, bringing her some comfort as they search Billy’s lair.

Meanwhile, Topo and Donnie unwittingly cross paths with Jacques, a ruthless leader of the Québécois mafia, in a desolate parking lot. Tensions spiral when Jacques confronts Topo regarding a $50,000 shortfall—a sum cleverly hidden away by Chloe as her share of the ill-gotten gains.

With threats looming, Jacques menacingly knows how to strike fear into Topo’s heart, compelling him to take extreme action against his aggressors. The grim aftermath sees Topo returning to the motel, only to face a mix of relief and anxiety from Chloe, who prepares to leave with Sophia. Their reunion, however, is cut short as Billy reemerges from the shadows, launching a barrage of bullets that leaves Topo and Donnie critically injured.
