Swarnaja [Koel Mallick] is a hardworking and good-natured radio jockey in Kolkata who carries a medically rare Rh-null blood, often described as ‘golden blood’. She was raised by her grandmother [Lily Chakravarty], and the two share a tight bond with their domestic helper [Kanchana Moitra] and her son Babai [Rwitobroto Mukherjee], who feels more like family than a servant. On a routine yoga session advised by their family physician [Shantilal Mukherjee], Swarnaja meets Shammo Sengupta [Chandan Roy Sanyal], a suave man who claims to be the heir to a gemstone business. Their attraction is instant, and for a while it seems that Swarnaja has found someone who understands her quiet longing for connection, especially given the shadow of her mother’s suicide and her own status as a blood carrier who could save others through her rare blood.
Yet the romance unravels when Swarnaja discovers that Shammo is already married, a truth he fails to disclose. The revelation ends the relationship, leaving Swarnaja wary but still curious about the man she almost trusted. Not long after, Shammo’s wife—Kheya [Basabdatta Chatterjee]—reaches out for a meeting. Swarnaja and Babai accompany her to a coffee shop and learn that Kheya will require a wheelchair after a pelvic injury. Surprisingly, Kheya does not object to Swarnaja and Shammo’s relationship, and a tentative, peculiar friendship begins to form between the two women, even as Swarnaja remains emotionally distant from Shammo. When Kheya later contemplates suicide—unable to bear the prospect of not having a child—Swarnaja makes a drastic decision: she agrees to carry the couple’s baby as a surrogate, a choice that deeply unsettles her grandmother and their doctor. Swarnaja grows attached to the unborn child, whom she names Ghenturam, and she imagines a future in which he is part of her family.
But the morning of the planned departure is shrouded in secrecy. The baby and the couple vanish, and a shaken Swarnaja learns that Shammo and Kheya have disappeared as well. Days pass, and the sudden death of Dr Burman is announced in the news. Swarnaja tries to resume her life, throwing herself into work as a way to cope with the loss and the growing sense of emptiness left by the disappearance of Ghenturam.
Five years later, the family is watching TV when they see news of a woman named Ankita Sen linked to a child-trafficking ring. The photo strikingly resembles Kheya, and Swarnaja and Babai rush to the police to report their suspicions. The investigation quickly reveals that Shammo and Kheya used forged documents and that they may be part of a larger international network that exploits surrogacy to traffic children for clinical trials. A masked man later enters Swarnaja’s home and tries to inject her; Babai blocks him but is badly hurt in the process, noticing a distinctive tattoo on the intruder’s hand. The police trace the tattoo back to the yoga instructor who once trained Swarnaja’s class, and they learn that he worked for Dr Burman and helped support a scheme to harvest and sell Swarnaja’s blood.
The breakthrough comes when the police discover the true identities behind the aliases. Sushil—who used to pose as Shammo’s partner—has moved ahead with his plan to claim the child, Porag, who is living in an orphanage under a new name. The trio of Swarnaja, Babai, and the authorities closes in on Sushil and another accomplice at a construction site. A tense pursuit ends with the culprits in custody, but Babai dies sacrificing himself to protect Porag, while the child is injured but survives.
In the aftermath, Swarnaja presses for custody of Porag. The orphanage reveals that Dr Burman had entrusted Porag to them, knowing Porag’s rare blood type and asking them to keep it secret. After Porag is healed from his injuries, he agrees to go with Swarnaja, and she welcomes him as her son, stepping into a future where her longed-for family finally includes a child who shares her extraordinary blood. The case exposes a cruel trade but also reaffirms Swarnaja’s resilience, the strength of chosen family, and the quiet hope that love, even in its hardest moments, can still find a way to endure.
