In the charming village of Knapely, Annie Clarke and Chris Harper lead everyday lives intertwined with the rhythms of the Women’s Institute. Their routine is abruptly shaken when Annie’s husband, John, is diagnosed with terminal leukaemia. During this harrowing time, Chris becomes a steadfast source of support, accompanying Annie on their hospital excursions.

While waiting in the hospital, Chris finds herself bemused by a risqué calendar hanging in a local garage—its absurdity ignites a bold concept: to create a calendar that captures the essence of the Knapely Women’s Institute. This unique project involves the women posing tastefully nude, yet engaged in their typical crafts like baking and knitting, all in an effort to raise funds for a new sofa.

Initially met with skepticism, Chris’s daring proposal eventually attracts nine other women to join her and Annie in this remarkable endeavor. They recruit Lawrence, an enthusiastic hospital staff member with a flair for photography, to immortalize their creative efforts. As these women confront their vulnerabilities, they discover a profound sense of empowerment and camaraderie.

Yet, the local Women’s Institute reacts with disapproval, refusing to endorse their calendar. Unwavering, Annie and Chris present their case at the national congress in London, facing a mix of curiosity and resistance. After tense discussions, the national leader reluctantly permits the sale of their calendar.

To their astonishment, the first batch of 500 calendars sells out rapidly, capturing both national and international acclaim. The women are invited to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in Los Angeles, a prospect that initially evokes hesitation. However, when a scandal involving Chris hits the tabloids, her desire for fame leads her to chase the spotlight to the West Coast.

Amidst this whirlwind of media attention, personal tensions between Annie and Chris reach a boiling point during a photo shoot. The serene grounds of Knapely witness the clash between two women thrust into the limelight. Annie accuses Chris of prioritizing fame over her family and business, while Chris feels that Annie is neglecting her own needs in her selfless devotion.

In the aftermath of this tumultuous episode, the women manage to mend their relationship, returning to the simplicity of their lives prior to the calendar’s fame. Their endeavor proves financially rewarding, raising over half a million pounds, which they channel into creating a specialized leukaemia wing at their local hospital—a powerful emblem of community strength and resilience in the face of hardships.
