Endless Night

Michael Rogers is introduced as a wistful young photographer who works as a chauffeur and lives with his mother in London. He dreams of a life of luxury and devotion to the fine arts, and he becomes obsessed with Gypsy's Acre after a ride along the Devon coast, imagining a grand future on the land.

While driving along the Devon coast, Michael discovers Gypsy's Acre, a dilapidated Victorian mansion with hidden potential. He envisions a new home there and hopes Santonix will design it, turning fantasy into a possible future.

At Gypsy's Acre, Michael meets Ellie Thomsen, a young American visiting England who is quickly drawn to his fantastical nature. The spark between them grows as they explore the property together.

During their exploration, they encounter Miss Townsend, a mysterious old woman who warns that Gypsy's Acre is for sale but cursed. Her ominous words cast a shadow over the land's charm.

While Ellie travels through Switzerland and Italy with Greta, Michael learns she is among the richest young women in the world. She explains she kept this hidden to avoid deterring him. She also reveals she arranged a meeting with Santonix to design his dream home and confirms she has purchased Gypsy's Acre.

Upon Ellie's return, Michael and Ellie marry in Wales, hoping to keep the wedding quiet to fend off potential bribery from her stepmother and family. The union nonetheless becomes international news. Andrew, the family attorney, offers to buy Michael out, but he refuses, insisting the couple are in love.

The couple purchases a local antique shop to operate, signaling a more settled life together. This business move anchors their new status in the local community.

Greta arrives and announces she has taken a secretarial job in London, then begins to slowly infiltrate the couple's life. Ellie welcomes Greta, but Michael grows suspicious as Frank and other family members push to distance Greta from Ellie.

Ellie grows increasingly unnerved as Miss Townsend stares at the house from the fields for hours at a time. The long gaze adds to the sense that something unseen is watching the estate.

Ellie goes missing while riding her horse, and her body is later found in the woods on Gypsy's Acre. An autopsy initially suggests cardiac arrest, but Michael suspects foul play and questions the official verdict.

Police trace Miss Townsend but are unable to locate her, leaving a lingering mystery about a potential witness or accomplice. The absence of Townsend deepens the suspicion surrounding Ellie's death.

After the inquest, Andrew informs Michael that Ellie made him the sole beneficiary and urges him to travel to the United States to handle Ellie's business affairs. Meanwhile, Santonix dies after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Back at Gypsy's Acre after returning from the United States, Michael experiences an apparition of Ellie and learns Greta has been manipulating events. It is revealed that Greta and Michael conspired to prey on Ellie to seize her estate, and Ellie was murdered by poisoning her allergy medicine with cyanide and bee venom.

The couple receives an envelope postmarked from New York City, containing date-stamped photographs that prove their long-standing conspiracy. Infuriated, Michael kills Greta in the swimming pool, an act that also triggers a memory of his childhood where he killed a schoolmate.

Michael is interviewed by the police and Dr. Philpott, confessing to helping murder Ellie. Philpott questions Miss Townsend’s existence, and Michael reiterates that Townsend never existed, before suffering a nervous breakdown haunted by visions of those he has killed.
