Boggy Creek II: And the Legend Continues

Charles B. Pierce as Dr. Lockhart, a professor of anthropology at the University of Arkansas, is drawn into a field inquiry after a sheriff reports a Bigfoot-like sighting near a remote town in southwestern Arkansas. He recruits three companions to assist: Tim Chuck Pierce Jr., Tanya Yazzie Serene Hedin, and Tanya’s friend Leslie Ann Walker Cindy Butler. The group heads for the Boggy Creek area near Fouke, setting up camp in the woods with a pop-up camper trailer and securing the perimeter with a SONAR system. Lockhart, while investigating, recounts the local legends through flashbacks that tease the longer history of the creature.

Locals are wary; some refuse to speak, while Crenshaw, Old Man Crenshaw Jimmy Clem, a stubborn but relatively welcoming figure who lives along the riverbank, is willing to share what he knows on his own terms. He shelters the visitors during a severe storm that makes river travel hazardous, and they end up spending the night in Crenshaw’s cabin.

Crenshaw believes Lockhart to be a medical doctor and asks for help tending to an animal he has caught. To Lockhart’s surprise, the creature he has captured is the offspring of the reported Bigfoot, the “Little Creature.” Lockhart suggests that the Big Creature has grown more hostile because its child is near death, a theory that aligns with the tension of the moment. The Big Creature pounds against the cabin in a late-night assault, forcing Lockhart to return the Little Creature to its parent. With the infant creature in its arms again, the two beings depart the cabin and vanish into the darkness.

The next morning, Crenshaw agrees with Lockhart’s assessment that the creatures should be left alone, and Lockhart resolves to keep the wider events to himself. He and his students eventually leave the Boggy Creek area, heading downstream as the landscape returns to its quiet, forested state. In the end, the Big Creature and its now-recovered offspring slip back into the wilderness, leaving behind only the memory of a tense night and a set of stories that linger in Fouke’s folklore.
