Yakyu Jubei and Seido High School chase a dream as old as the legend itself: reaching the legendary Koshien Stadium. The team’s hope rests on the return of a star and a new transfer, Matsui Gorilla, whose presence promises a real chance at glory. Yet the mood among the staff turns grave when the head teacher informs them that their very first opponent will be the infamous [Gedo High School], a group with a brutal reputation for crushing every rival. Principal Kocho tries to steady the nerves, but the fear of what lies ahead quickly drains the room of optimism.

In the wings, Seido’s catcher, affectionately teased as Megane and known to the world as “Four Eyes,” is busy chasing a stray ball when he gets cornered by expelled students. Enter Megane or the nickname that sticks, and a newly arrived transfer student, [Jakyu?]—no, the film introduces the enigmatic fighter [Jubeh], who steps in to defend Four Eyes. The encounter unfolds as a dramatic showcase of fighting baseball, and the two players clash with the gang’s leader, Bancho 1 at the helm. Jubeh’s win is decisive, leaving Kocho impressed enough to invite him to join the team, though Jubeh initially refuses, having taken a vow to never play again after a fateful accident.

Bancho reappears and, moved by Jubeh’s intervention, chooses to join Seido, aided by Jubeh’s blows that heal his injuries. As the players grip the idea of teamwork, a deeper confession emerges: when confronted by Four Eyes, Jubeh speaks of his haunted past, lamenting his pitching that became so dangerous it nearly took his own life. The confession deepens when Four Eyes reveals a stubborn love of baseball despite his own talent—or lack thereof—and his mother’s baseball-hate drives him to persevere. It’s a moment that softens Jubeh’s vow enough for him to finally join the team.

The day of the Gedo game arrives, but Jubeh is nowhere to be found. Four Eyes heads off to locate him, and by the time Jubeh returns, Seido has already suffered slaughter at the hands of their brutal rivals. An exploding decoy shocks the stadium, and Jubeh’s life hangs in the balance. In the otherworldly moment that follows, Jubeh is met by his father, who urges him to embrace his gifts and use them for the good of everyone. Bancho also crosses paths with the same father in the afterlife and is given a special mitt—one that can halt Jubeh’s pitch if needed.

Back from the beyond, Jubeh and Bancho return to the living world to form a renewed Seido squad alongside Kocho, a transformed Head Teacher, and even a cyborg version of [Matsui Gorilla], along with an unlikely ally—one of the school’s cheerleaders—and Four Eyes’ mother, who finally gives her blessing for him to play. The plan is simple: pool their strengths to defeat Gedo once and for all.

What follows is a brutal showdown where, aside from Jubeh and Gedo’s coach, everyone on the field has been knocked unconscious. A climactic duel ensues, and the coach channels a poisoned-injecting baseball bat. Four Eyes steps forward, sacrificing himself to shield the others and interrupt the attack. Fueled by rage and the memory of his “brother,” Jubeh rises to strike back, but the coach is spared at the last moment as the Gedo players plead for mercy, explaining how the coach mentored them and became a father figure to them. Jubeh, moved—yet torn—decides to let the coach live.

A crowd gathers as the coach gains a renewed respect for life and hands over an antidote to Jubeh. Just as relief seems within reach, a new threat emerges: one of the Gedo players opens fire, gunning down everyone on the field except Jubeh. The bleachers fall silent as he sheds a tear, and cherry blossoms drift down as the fallen are briefly resurrected to life. Yet the resurrected come back to life only to endure another moment of peril, and Jubeh must act again, lashing out and literally knocking the muscles off the gunman’s bandaged body.

The field fills with a joy that feels almost sacred as the crowd cheers. The film’s narrator reveals himself to be the bleacher’s drunkard’s dog, a small, cryptic thread that grounds the fantastical events in a single voice. In the end, life on the field returns to a fragile equilibrium, with one person—the one left not resurrected by Jubeh’s tears—left apart from the revival, a quiet note of tragedy that underscores the price of such miracles. Still, the chorus of the crowd celebrates a hard-won victory that feels earned, and the story closes on a note of hopeful endurance.
