Baaz: A Bird in Danger

The film opens with a child who destroys anything that fascinates him due to a mysterious inherited disorder. His father has committed suicide and his mother is declared mentally ill. Doctors diagnose the condition as genetic and the boy is looked after by his grandmother.

We move to Nainital where Neha Chopra arrives from Delhi to work as an interior designer for Jai Singh Dabral, the city mayor who is also a womanizer. Dabral is attracted to Neha, and the city is rumored to be haunted by a serial killer who preys on beautiful women. The police take notice of the danger in the city.

Neha meets Raj Singh, a loafer who is avoided by many because he is the prime suspect in the killings. The two soon fall in love, much to the consternation of locals who keep their distance. Commissioner Harshvardhan Bhatti and officer Preeti Rastogi begin shadowing the couple as the killer remains at large.

Harshvardhan and Preeti warn Neha that Raj could be the killer and urge her to help the police trap him red-handed. They plan to watch his movements and act when he is about to strike. Neha is unsettled but stays, hoping to uncover the truth.

Neha initially refuses to believe Raj is a killer because he saves her life on at least one occasion. Later she discovers items of murder in Raj's house, which convinces her of his guilt. Brokenhearted, she contemplates leaving Nainital, but Dabral and the police persuade her to stay to help nab Raj.

One of the killer’s victims’ sisters wakes from a coma to identify the killer, but when the cops arrive the coma patient dies from shock. The event deepens the investigation and prompts Preeti to press Harshvardhan for answers.

Preeti is found murdered in Raj’s house, sending a shock through the police. Raj flees and is chased by Harshvardhan and the police, eventually jumping off a waterfall and seeking refuge at Neha’s home.

Dabral issues a 24-hour ultimatum to arrest Raj. Harshvardhan gives Neha a mobile phone to contact Raj, but when Raj phones in, Harshvardhan does not answer and Neha leaves a voice message accusing Raj.

The climax unfolds at a temple where Harshvardhan separates Raj and Neha, then reveals that he is the serial killer from the opening. He explains his childhood neglect, the influence of his mother's words to create his own world, and how he has murdered many and hid the bodies in an underground lair.

Harshvardhan admits to the murders, including killing Preeti to protect his secret, and reveals that he framed Raj by recording Neha’s accusation and letting it be used against him. He maintains control over the situation as the truth comes out.

Dabral arrives and frees Raj; a fierce fight erupts at Harshvardhan’s house. The confrontation ends when Harshvardhan’s grandmother shoots him multiple times, ending his reign of terror.

In the aftermath, Raj and Neha survive their ordeal and plan to marry. Dabral offers them the deserted house to live in, giving them a fresh start away from the town’s haunted past.
