In the rural village of Chandanghat, a cruel cycle of violence sets the stage for a haunting that lingers for decades. A powerful Thakur commits a brutal act of rape against a young girl, a wound so deep that the girl ends her life in despair. The town soon whispers of a vengeful spirit—the girl’s anger personified—who strikes down the Thakur, followed by the Thakur’s son, each death attributed to the same spectral force. The air of fear settles over the village, and the legend of the spirit becomes a murky thread that ties generations together.

Two decades pass, and a new chapter begins when the grandson Kumar Vijay Singh arrives in Chandanghat. The locals, wary and wary again, warn him that the spirit will claim him as well, but he remains skeptical, treating the warnings as superstition. His skepticism is tested from the very first night, when a haunting song rises from the swamp and unsettles the tranquility of his lodgings. On the following morning, he learns of a girl named Radha, a carefree soul who is the niece of the village elder Ramlal. The encounter hints at a deeper history and a tangled web of secrets that connect the present with the brutal past.

The strange singing continues into the second night, and Kumar finds himself unable to identify the source of the voice. He notices an inexplicable light on the terrace of his own house, a beacon that seems to be guiding the events around him. Then, a new trouble emerges: his coat goes missing, as if someone—or something—has taken hold of his presence here. Rumors spread: the news that Kumar has been killed reaches [Radha], who refuses to accept such a fate. She ventures into the forest, where she is confronted by a figure that steps forward—a man wearing Kumar’s coat who claims he is alive, though his circumstances are perilous. He reveals that the man killed in the swamp was not him, but another who wore the same coat, killed at the same ancestral tree where his father and grandfather met their violent ends.

That night, a different scene unfolds: Laxman, Kumar’s loyal servant, is seen quarreling with a girl. When questioned, Laxman explains a lingering ruse—the man who died beneath the tree was actually his sister’s husband. A signal from the house terrace using a lantern had been used to guide a fugitive brother-in-law to the residence, for supplies. Desperate for a coat, the fugitive had been supplied with Kumar’s coat, and thus the spirit’s misidentification led to a fatal mistake. The haunting, it seems, has seized upon a chain of misread signs and misdirected identities, and Radha presses Kumar to leave the village, fearing the consequences of staying. Yet Kumar refuses to abandon the place he has come to.

Ramlal’s own warnings grow sterner. He forbids Radha from meeting Kumar, invoking the village’s whispers that the killer lineage of the Thakur’s lineage has left a taint over Kumar’s blood—two generations of violent deaths seem to mark him as a target of the spirit. Radha, though saddened by this harsh reality, remains drawn to Kumar’s steadfast presence. In a bid to resolve the matter, Ramlal suggests a plan: bring Kumar to the swamp for a private conversation, hoping that reasoning might persuade him to leave. Kumar goes to the swamp, where the spirit makes a lethal attempt on his life; he narrowly escapes.

As events unfold, Radha uncovers a startling truth: the supposed spirit was not a supernatural force at all, but a mortal performance orchestrated by [Ramlal]. It is his own daughter who bore the shame of the Thakur’s rape, and in a brutal bid to shield his family’s honor, he killed the Thakur and the Thakur’s son, and now sought to eliminate the Thakur’s grandson. With the revelation, the police arrive and persuade Ramlal to surrender, ending the masquerade that has driven the village to fear and suspicion.

In the end, the truth about the past is laid bare, and the bond between Radha and Kumar Vijay Singh is healed by a shared understanding of tragedy and resilience. The story closes on a note of hope: love and trust prevail after a history of violence and deception, and the couple embarks on a future free from the shadow of the past.
