Armored Car Robbery

In Los Angeles, a shrewd criminal mastermind, Dave Purvis William Talman, hatches a high-stakes plan to hit an armored car on its final pickup of the day. He rounds up Benny McBride Douglas Fowley, who in turn brings in a pair of able-bodied accomplices: Al Mapes Steve Brodie and Ace Foster Gene Evans. Benny’s motive isn’t just wealth; he’s desperate to win back his wife, Yvonne LeDoux Adele Jergens, a glamorous burlesque dancer who is now entangled with Purvis. The plan seems airtight on paper, a neat sequence of moves designed to outpace the law and walk away with a fortune.

The heist unfolds at Wrigley Field, where the armored car rolls into view and the crew springs into action. A passing police patrol car disrupts the carefully staged moment, and chaos erupts in a hail of gunfire. Purvis kills one officer, and the robbers scatter, forcing them into a chaotic, high-stakes chase. Lieutenant Jim Cordell Charles McGraw, the dead officer’s partner, throws himself into the investigation with relentless determination, though his rookie partner Danny Ryan Don McGuire is initially treated with open skepticism. The violence leaves Benny badly wounded, and the gang switches to a different getaway car in a desperate bid to escape. A roadblock looms, and in a tense confrontation, Purvis shoots Benny—an act that exposes Purvis’s cold pragmatism and his ruthless calculation. Purvis’s cold reasoning is clear when he promises Benny’s share will be handed to Yvonne, signaling that Purvis already suspects the depth of Benny and Yvonne’s relationship.

With Benny dead and the loot secure, Mapes disposes of the second getaway car, its fate sealed as it sinks in the harbor. The pursuit widens as Foster’s luck runs out; he is gunned down by the police as the trio attempts a final escape by motorboat. Mapes and Purvis choose separate routes, but Purvis still holds the entire stash. Mapes, seeking a lifeline, makes a final push to reach Yvonne at the burlesque theater, hoping she can show him a path to the loot. The network closes in when police intercept him, and Mapes reveals Purvis’s true identity to the authorities.

In a clever undercover move, Ryan tails Purvis under the guise of Mapes, hoping to learn more and protect Yvonne who has never met Mapes before. Purvis, recognizing the ruse, captures Ryan and shoots him, while Yvonne flees. Undeterred, Ryan manages to send a crucial alert to Cordell, revealing that Purvis and Yvonne are planning to flee the country by chartered airplane. The climactic showdown unfolds at the airport, where Cordell and his team close in on the couple. Purvis makes a last frantic attempt to escape across the runway, but a landing plane proves decisive. Purvis is killed, the money is recovered, and with Ryan recovering from his wound, Cordell finally recognizes him as a capable partner rather than a liability.

The film closes on a note of hard-won partnership and justice served, as the battered but resolute team secures the evidence, reconciles their differences, and looks toward a future where trust and skill triumph over greed.
