Ty Hackett, portrayed by Columbus Short, is a courageous war veteran from Iraq who now finds himself working at a security company that specializes in armored vehicles. Balancing his responsibilities, Ty struggles to support his younger brother Jimmy, who is still in school, all while facing the harsh reality of financial troubles and impending foreclosure on their home. He is joined at work by his colleagues, the seasoned Laurence Fishburne as Baines and Matt Dillon as Mike Cochrane, who introduces Ty to the ins and outs of the job through a staged mock robbery during Ty’s first assignment.
That evening, while enjoying drinks, Mike shares a tale of a past heist involving $4 million and the suspicion surrounding the security personnel but reveals that nothing could be proven against them. Pressured by a looming custody battle for Jimmy and a desperate financial situation, Ty reluctantly becomes entangled in Mike’s audacious plan to rob a staggering $42 million that they are scheduled to transport the next day. Despite his initial hesitation and a strong desire to avoid violence, Ty’s resolve wavers after a home visit from the childcare agency.
The heist involves two armored trucks: one led by Mike, Baines, and Ty, and the other carrying Quinn (played by Jean Reno), Palmer (Amaury Nolasco), and Dobbs (Skeet Ulrich). The team’s camaraderie quickly deteriorates as they head to an abandoned mill to unload the money, where they become aware of an unexpected witness — a homeless man. In a tragic turn of events, Baines ruthlessly kills the bystander, prompting Ty to lock himself in a truck in a desperate act of self-preservation. The situation escalates as Sheriff Eckehart arrives to investigate a faint siren, leading to a chaotic confrontation along with betrayal from within as Dobbs tries to aid Ty but ends up killed by Palmer.
In a tense exchange, Ty manages to signal for help yet finds himself increasingly isolated as his so-called allies plot against him. When Quinn kidnaps Jimmy, desperation drives Ty to set a trap, resulting in a massive explosion as the crew attempts to access the money. In the aftermath, Ty manages to escape with Jimmy’s safety in mind, while a dramatic chase ensues with Mike in pursuit.
Reeling from the ordeal, Ty confronts the consequences of the heist as he narrowly avoids death after a near-fatal crash instigated by Mike. As Ty walks away from the carnage, he finds solace in the hospital where Sheriff Eckehart will recover, thanks to Ty’s courageous actions. The sheriff expresses gratitude, hinting at a potential reward for Ty’s bravery in what has become a harrowing tale of survival, loyalty, and betrayal.
