Anthropophagous

A quintet of travelers plans a routine island tour when Julie joins the group. She explains a detour to a sparsely populated island where friends live, while Carol's Tarocco Piemontese tarot cards warn of bad omens. As they sail toward the island, a man emerges from the ocean, slaughters a sailor, and abducts Maggie into the sea-dark horizon.

The group disembarks to explore the eerily empty town, finding it in disarray with no residents. A lone woman in black watches from the shadows and writes 'Go Away' on a dusty window. They uncover a rotting corpse that appears to have been cannibalized, prompting a frantic retreat as their boat drifts away.

The travelers reach the house belonging to Julie's friends and meet Henriette, the blind daughter. Daniel is wounded in a panic-induced incident, and Henriette calms him while muttering about a madman who smells blood prowling the island. The tension mounts as the threat becomes personal.

A disfigured killer breaks into the house and rips Daniel's throat out, sparing Henriette for the moment. He flees as the rest of the group returns, leaving them in shock and fear as they realize the danger is not just in the town but among them. The group's sense of safety collapses in an instant.

The following morning, the survivors trek the island and arrive at Klaus Wortman's mansion. Julie notes that Klaus, his wife, and their child were shipwrecked and presumed dead, a tragedy that may have driven Ruth into madness. Ruth, the woman in black, watches the group enter, comforts Carol, and then hangs herself.

Within the mansion, Julie uncovers a partially destroyed journal revealing that Klaus is the killer and that the bodies of his victims lie in a hidden room. The revelation confirms the group's fears and sets them on a perilous search through the mansion. The tension rises as they begin to suspect their host may be more dangerous than any monster they imagined.

Andy and Arnold split up to search the island while Arnold heads to an abandoned church. There, he finds Maggie and is confronted by Klaus, whose presence confirms the danger is closer than anyone realized. The eerie church becomes a crucible for the killer's ruthless control over the group.

Klaus overpowers Arnold with a swift killing blow, and then strangles Maggie to death. As Arnold dies, he watches Klaus reveal a savage appetite by ripping out and eating Maggie's unborn child. The violence underscores Klaus's total moral collapse and his predatory nature.

Julie discovers the hidden rooms in the mansion and is chased by Klaus through the corridors. She locks herself and Henriette in the attic, but Klaus breaks through the ceiling and kills Henriette. Julie manages to knock him off the roof, sending him tumbling toward a well.

Klaus returns to attack Julie at the well, but Andy arrives just in time and stabs Klaus in the stomach with a pickaxe. Klaus's intestines spill out as he staggers, gnawing on his own innards in a final grotesque gesture before dying. Julie and Andy stare at the carnage, haunted by what they've witnessed.

With Klaus dead, Andy and Julie stand over his body, exchanging a look that is equal parts horror and relief. The island's terror has ended for now, but the couple is left to process what they've survived and what they've become.
