An Innocent Man

James 'Jimmie' Rainwood and his loving wife, Kate, enjoy a serene suburban life in Long Beach, California. Jimmie works as an aeronautics engineer while supporting Kate in her educational pursuits, epitomizing a picture of domestic bliss.

Detectives Mike Parnell and Danny Scalise, posing as narcotics officers, engage in drug theft and dishonest practices to enrich themselves. Their corruption ultimately sets the stage for a violent unsuspecting encounter with Jimmie.

In a drug-fueled delusion, Detective Parnell mistakenly invades Jimmie's home. Wielding only a hairdryer after his shower, Jimmie is critically wounded when Parnell misinterprets the situation and opens fire.

To escape repercussions for their mistake, Parnell and Scalise concoct a scheme to frame Jimmie for drug dealing. They plant drugs and a firearm in his residence, creating a narrative to justify their actions.

The authorities quickly latch onto the false narrative devised by Parnell and Scalise. Despite Jimmie's claims of innocence, his prior conviction complicates his situation, landing him with a six-year prison sentence.

Upon entering prison, Jimmie is ill-prepared for the harsh realities of inmate life. The murder of his cellmate introduces him to the brutal conditions he must navigate while dealing with dangerous gangs.

Jimmie's troubles escalate as he crosses paths with the ruthless Black Guerrilla Family, led by the menacing Jingles. After suffering serious injuries in a violent confrontation, he learns to fend for himself in this hostile environment.

In the midst of chaos, Jimmie finds guidance from seasoned inmate Virgil Cane. Urged to confront his problems with Jingles, Jimmie struggles between seeking peace and resorting to violence.

Pushed to his limits and armed with a makeshift shank, Jimmie bravely confronts Jingles with Virgil standing watch. Although he faces suspicion from the authorities afterward, they lack evidence to implicate him.

After his confrontation with Jingles, Jimmie is placed in solitary confinement for three months as the authorities investigate. This dark period leaves him reflective and traumatized from the experience.

Once released back into the general population, Jimmie is viewed as a minor hero for dealing with Jingles. Despite this newfound respect, the emotional scars from his prison experience linger.

Outside prison, Kate faces harassment from the corrupt detectives searching for leverage over Jimmie. Loyal to her husband, she grapples with the danger and emotional toll of Jimmie's imprisonment.

Determined to prove Jimmie's innocence, Kate seeks out Virgil in prison for help. Together, they work to gather evidence against Parnell and Scalise, risking their own safety in the process.

As Virgil's network begins revealing the detectives' corrupt practices, Parnell and Scalise feel the pressure mounting. In a desperate attempt to escape the unraveling situation, they try to flee with drugs.

The final altercation ensues when Jimmie, along with Malcolm, ambushes the fleeing detectives. Jimmie's moral code is tested, but ultimately, he turns to the authorities, leading to Parnell's arrest and a chance to rebuild his life.
