The story flashes back to 1971 New York City, where Tupac's mother, Afeni, is released from prison after fighting multiple charges. She passionately shares her grievances about systemic racism and the injustices faced by black individuals.

As a child in East Harlem, Tupac witnesses systemic racism and police brutality firsthand. The influence of his stepfather, Mutulu, a wanted revolutionary, creates a tense atmosphere for the family filled with danger.

Transitioning to his teenage years, Tupac chooses to live independently after confronting his mother when he catches her buying drugs. This moment becomes a catalyst for him to seek help for her addiction.

While attending the Baltimore School for the Arts, Tupac forms a deep friendship with Jada Pinkett. They promise each other lifelong friendship, symbolized by a heartfelt poem Tupac dedicates to her.

Tupac's music career kicks off with Digital Underground’s hit “Same Song.” Under the mentorship of Leila Steinberg, he starts crafting revolutionary hip-hop albums that tackle societal issues.

His tracks, including 'Brenda's Got a Baby,' generate controversy due to their sensitive topics like poverty and sexual violence. Tupac passionately defends his lyrics, emphasizing their relevance to the realities faced by many.

In 1996, Tupac finds love in Kidada Jones, which brings hope and joy amidst his chaotic lifestyle. Their engagement symbolizes a desire for stability in the midst of his turbulent life.

On September 7, 1996, after leaving a boxing match in Las Vegas, Tupac is shot in a drive-by shooting. Despite the quick response from his entourage, he succumbs to his injuries days later.

The film culminates with a clip of the real Tupac speaking about understanding his essence. His legacy encompasses both artistic genius and the turmoil he faced throughout his life.
