Afflicted

Clif and Derek decide to travel the world filming their travel web series Ends of the Earth. The trip is framed as Derek's last wish due to an AVM that could kill him at any moment. They leave home and begin their journey.

In Barcelona, Derek reconnects with old friends Edo and Zach and meets a woman named Audrey. A late-night prank in Derek's hotel room leaves Audrey missing and the group assuming she plotted a robbery. Clif and Derek part ways with Edo and Zach after the chaos.

Arriving in Italy, Derek passes out for an entire day. The next afternoon they eat at a restaurant where Derek projectile-vomits his meal. The illness and fatigue begin to overlap with a growing sense that something is dangerously wrong.

At a vineyard in Italy, Derek has an extreme reaction to sunlight and flees indoors, scarred by burns. Later back at the hotel, a violent burst of anger culminates in Derek punching through a stone wall with his bare hands. These events mark the first obvious manifestations of his transformation.

Over the following days Derek displays superhuman strength, speed, and agility, insisting there is nothing wrong with him. He grows sicker as he cannot eat, and finally agrees to go to a hospital. Clif grows increasingly worried as the changes accelerate.

On the way to the hospital they narrowly avoid a car and then fight the angry driver and passenger. Derek licks the blood off his hand, confirming Clif's fear that vampire biology is taking hold. Clif searches for explanations online but finds nothing useful.

Derek tries drinking blood from a butcher, then kills and drinks the blood of a piglet, only to vomit both times. He and Clif attempt to rob an ambulance for human blood but fail. Derek slips into a catatonic state, and Clif tries to give him his own blood but Derek escapes.

Clif is killed by the now fully inhuman Derek. Derek regains his senses, realizes what he has done, and shoots himself in the head, only for the wound to heal with minor scarring. Interpol agents arrive to arrest Derek, forcing him to escape with Clif's camera bag.

Derek hides in an abandoned warehouse in Paris and reviews footage of his meeting with Audrey. He deduces Audrey's phone may be at the hotel where she bit him. He retrieves the phone and texts every number in the contacts to lure someone to him, receiving a reply from a man named Maurice.

In Maurice's apartment, Derek finds a bloodstained saw and a photo of Audrey. Maurice attacks but Derek overpowers him; Maurice knows Audrey and resents that she left him human. Derek sets up a live-stream of Maurice bound and tries to lure Audrey, prompting a GIGN assault, a near-fatal shooting, and a frantic slaughter of the squad as Derek escapes.

Audrey visits the abandoned building and attacks Derek, revealing there is no cure for vampirism. She explains she would have cured herself if possible and warns Derek to feed every four to five days to avoid becoming an indiscriminate killer. Derek realizes she chose him because he was dying and believes her motives were twisted.

Derek posts a final online entry explaining that he can never contact his family again. Later, he films himself feeding on a man who has child pornography on his phone.

A teenage boy and two teenage girls are attacked at a swimming pool in Italy; the boy escapes and finds the bloodied corpse of one girl. Clif, now also a vampire, ambushes and attacks the boy, signaling the continuation of vampire violence.
